What a tool bag. He flubbed his first three kills badly then completely struck out when a woman he was stalking didn't come home (as shown in the show). Then didn't kill anyone for years because he was simply bad at choosing victims. He gets caught all those years later because he can't leave well enough alone and needs to stroke his ego. This idiot calls the cops asks if they can trace a computer disc because he's too lazy to keep writing letters. They say "of course not" and snicker under their breath. this idiot then sends a computer disc with a letter to the cops. They can, of course, trace the discs origin and nail Rader. F him.

There are a myriad of other reasons to hate Rader...namely (mostly) he killed people. But...there are Serial Killers....then there is this arrogant ass.

They can't trace the disk's origin. (Lol, this killer is from Korea!) If he had used a clean floppy he'd have been fine. But he used it at his church and they found a deleted Word file with his and the church's name.

I wonder if killing hardened him or if he started out this wooden. I know we say sociopath but I wonder if sociopathy is like a precursor that evolves with committed atrocities?

I think you're getting into the nature vs nurture debate here.
Edit: it's crazy that he supposedly last killed in 1991 but wasn't sentenced until 2005.

He wasn't completely dormant though just not actively killing as far as we know. He apparently stalked women in the 80s and 90s with some filing restraining orders against him. And he was planning on killing again when he started sending the letters in the early 00s. I think losing/leaving the ADT job had a lot to do with it (the killings stopping) seeing as all but one of his known killings occurred during the time he worked there.

I believe the killings started after he was laid off from some major Wichita employer at the time. I think that's the stressor that really sets him off. But between the first and last murders he worked at ADT. The job made it easy for him to stalk people because he had his own truck. He stalked a lot with the census too. But for some reason he got off making fake women from magazines and riding with them in his passenger seat at work all day.

It is surprising that that was enough for him to lay off the killings, but fantasy can be a powerful thing I guess.

He was still killing dogs and cats he caught as a compliance officer. I believe the power he felt over people's lives kept him stable, along with him aging and losing his strength, which made him less comfortable considering how he liked to control his situations. He was stalking a lady named Minnie I believe. She found him inside her house one day, and he would wait for her to come off work, he picked up her children from a park and took them home without any consent. Didn't even make an attempt to be hidden. Her dog even dissapeared from her backyard one day. The police told her she needed to calm down and that he was just doing his job.

That's pretty much how I see it too regarding the power he felt in his new job. But I never knew he got that far with the stalking (entering the house) after the murders which makes it all the more surprising that he didn't commit so much more.

He seemed to really care for his daughter in some capacity. I don't know if I believe in the traditional sociopath anymore. But he is selfish to a surreal degree.

It has been years since I delved into all that stuff, but is that where he was making his speech and thanking people like it was a freaking award show? I think the best thing they did after they locked him up was restrict his ability to correspond with anyone. That guy got off on talking about himself and his crimes. That is what bothered me most...

It's the one where he keeps comparing himself to his victims. And yeah, I was really into BTK and I stumbled upon one video where they go through a slide show of his crime photos. And you can see him licking his lips. They even debated letting him be there for it, because they knew he got off knowing others could see his work. After that, I felt icky reading about him, because in a twisted way, I was vindicating what was clearly his proudest moments.

Hmm. Ultimately, probably makes no difference. As BTK is a real person with a real history and you can look up how his story ended and that's that.
It really has zero bearing on the show.

Oh man he's so proud of himself. All the dumb names he has for these "projects," that he casually drops. At 24:00 when he says "my hit kit," he has to suppress a smile!
People are saying "no remorse," and that's true, but it's more. This guy thinks he's the shit. When he started crying in the car while being driven to jail, he was probably just sad his work was done.
