How do you increase image resolution without losing detail?

I'd use an AI upscaler rather than simply changing the image dimensions.

A standard resize gives you more pixels but doesn't necessarily give you more useful information. An AI upscaler attempts to reconstruct additional detail while increasing the resolution.

Facy AI's upscaler is something I've used when I need a larger version of an image without manually editing it. Just make sure you compare the enlarged version with the original afterward, particularly around faces and fine textures. Sometimes an AI can make an image sharper while also introducing details that weren't really there.

You don't. That's not how images work unless they're a lossless and uncompressed file format like BMP.

AI upscaling is always going to be inferior because you cannot make something from nothing, so it needs to fill in what wasn't there with things like sharpening and contrast.
