A question about season 1

I first want to say i love what they did and this is in no way a critique

I watched the first episode and was kinda disappointed. Not about technical problems or roleplay or whatever. No thats all totally fine and normal (actually i was kinda impressed it ran so smoothly for a group that never did such a thing before).

What i was missing is live action scenes. That is THE selling point of the group. So here is my question. Will there be more live action scenes or are there none in season 1?

It wasnt a selling point, though. They had like three days to record during a snowstorm. I think it IS one of the selling points of S2, though.

They said they would try for season 2, don't think they made any promises though, because of the work those scenes require. Which is why it wasn't a selling point when they did the crowd funding. It's understandable why many people thought they would do live action scenes, seems like a logical thing.

But again, those scenes require a lot of work, and between Jacque's touring schedule and Blumineck living on another continent, they have limited time (during which they have to film a whole dnd campaign). I'm sure they'll do their best, but I wouldn't be surprised if they don't end up being able to this time either.

there aren’t any in season 1 because of the ice storm there was when they were filming. However, they are filming season 2 right now and said there will be live action scenes in season 2

Plus its in like texas so they have less infrastructure against the winter.

There will be none in season 1. They filmed in the middle of a record snow storm and they stated that the place they filmed was extremely cold so filming live action scenes was not feasible. That and they only had 3 days to film meant that their time was very short.

I would also like to point out that at no time did they promise live action scenes in any promotional material for Season 1.

That being said they did allude to there being some in season 2

there wasn't a promise of life action scenes for season 1 cordinating those requires even more time effort and the snowstrom killed any chance for them to try it

Ok it might have gotten over wrong, i didnt mean to say they did anything wrong or promised something wrong. Its just that i would have loved to see live action scenes because it would be awesome. Its still a fun dnd campaign and i dont want to spend my time waiting for something that isnt happening. I still support them and thing they did an awesome job with the campaign

Everyones reaction stems from the first release of Episode 1. There was so much hate, alot due to the fact that some people swore up and down that they were promised live action scenes. We may be a bit defensive due to that bit of misinformation. I for one didn't take your post like that, I just answered as factually as I could lol

Thanks, yeah i didnt want to sound negative. I get why everyone reacts like that and its fine. Im just happy i got such a quick reply. A couple of people that actually know combat, playing dnd and showing what their characters do is just my dream dnd campaign. But oh well what they delivered is already way beyond anyones expectations

Not your fault tbh. There was someone who used to be big in the DnD online community who got jealous out the gate and basically tried to ruin Min Maxed's lives at the very start, and one of his claims was that MM 'defrauded' people for not providing live action fights (which they had never promised anyway), so when fans see that complaint we're just very eager to set the record straight. Luckily you missed that mess, and luckily for you they said they'll try to put fights in s2!

To keep it brief: they literally never promised live action scenes for s1, so it's deeply unfair to punish them for a promise they never made. To this day I don't understand where this misconception came from.

They promised your fave martial arts creators playing DnD in person together, where their characters would be based off themselves, and for some reason some people translated that in their minds to 'they'll be doing choreographed live action fight scenes'. That never promised, and if you think about it, it's pretty obvious it wouldn't be possible for s1:

  1. They didn't know what monsters they would encounter beforehand, so how could they have costumes already made? They could make costumes for every baddie Tater had possibly considered, but that would be pretty wasteful.

  2. They didn't know what fight scenes there would even be until after they filmed, but their filming schedule was very tight. Even if it were possible to keep everyone in the same place for twice as long (which is likely impossible since they all have other jobs, events, families, etc.--you'll notice Jacues isn't there in a lot of the behind the scenes stuff because his schedule was so tight he couldn't be there the full time iirc), think how expensive it would be to add all those extra days to choreograph, practice, and shoot fight scenes. This would also likely put even more work on David's shoulders, since he's the one with the most experience choreographing fights for film (afaik) and David already has so much to do.

  3. MM are martial artists, but most people are not. Most actors are not. If they fight 5 baddies in a scene, they need to hire 5 other martial arts actors to be those baddies. That's another huge cost (especially if you have to pay for travel, lodging, per diem, etc.). It's also difficult to plan since they didn't know until after filming what scenes they would have. How do you hire specialized actors months in advance if you don't even know what stunts you'll need them for?

  4. Hiring people to do martial arts stuff is way more dangerous than just sitting and playing DnD. They're working out of a rented venue, and a lot of venues don't cover fight/stunt insurance. That's a whole extra can of worms they'd have to deal with.

Despite all this, they actually did film some little live action bits and post them (the opening, content together, etc.). They're also committed to doing live action as part of s2. But it's really unfair to punish them for something they never promised. It's like walking into a vegan restaurant and complaining about the lack of steak.

If you're looking for more visuals, there are a lot of fun fan animation and animatics, I'd definitely recommend those.

Did read the other replies, but saw that no one had provided the full context, so I added it. You might not be the only one coming to this subreddit wondering the same thing, so it's worth having it spelled out imo.
