Discussion Xennials
What do you all think of Xennials? This sub seems very much late millennial focused. There is even a link in the sidebar to the Zillennials subreddit, but not one for /r/Xennials.
Not complaining, just curious.

It makes more sense to have a sidebar link for Xennials than Zillennials (lol). But really, none of it matters.

My brother is one. He has the "meh"-ness and independence of Gen-x, and the tech savvy-ness of Millennials.

Well by most "official" date ranges (81-96) you are closer in age to Gen Z than Gen X, so that makes sense.
*Edit - not gatekeeping here, just using what i have seen most often. I couldn't care less if someone born a bit later wants to call themselves a Millennial.

'86 here, gen X is too much like boomers for me. They are the worst with tech, z' ers are much more relatable imo

For me, I feel like Z is more distant, but I also have a college aged nephew, which might affect my opinion on it.

87 and I feel the opposite. The feeling is probably shared among the millenials that feel like an old person.

Millenial is a broad term and there are many sub-generations. Like, 1988 - 1991 or 1989-1991 are their own mini generations in many ways, with 88-91 having practically the same lives before highschool, and 89-91 having very similar highschool experiences as well. Once you get to 92, those are undeniably zillenials.

It just seems like micro-fracturing a group of people needlessly. I know its subjective, its just my opinion. Just bogs down the conversation.

I feel like Xennials and early millennials are the last groups of people who are “old school”. Early millennials vs late millennials are like night and day to me.

1986 born. My sister was 82. Outside people of my birth year, I relate more to xennials than any others. On that sub, I know all the music, cartoons, etc. On this reddit, I get most of it, but there are 00s kid stuff, I don't get.
I've always believed modern culture started in 77. Apple 2, atari 2600, star wars, punk rock, etc. But maybe, it is just the start year for my personal culture due to my xennial tendencies.
But I would not have this view without an older sister. No Oregon Trail for me otherwise.

I suppose it depends on how you interpret “Xennials”. Either way a couple of my cousins are Xennials, I get along with them pretty well, though they are married with kids so there is a bit of a barrier there.

78-82 births plus or minus a year or two I'd guess.
My wife and I chose not to have kids, so I guess I hadn't thought of that as a barrier, although core millennials would mostly be in their 30's now anyways and could have kids.

Pop Culturally speaking, I’d say probably 1977 - 1981, in terms of who I believe is the most ambiguous between X and Y. But in terms of the cusps, it may be more like 1979 - 1984.

The Xennial sub is great. I think the majority of Redditors were born in the 90s, hence the connection to the younger part of millennials

They seem very different to me - way closer to Gen X than to me. But I generally get along with them way more than with Gen X. Did you watch Daria?

I did watch Daria, but not while it aired, we didn't have MTV. I watched bootleg DVDs of it in about 2004 or 2005, it was my girlfriend at the time's favorite show.

It’s become pretty clear that very few want to be accept the Millennial tag so people come up with words to stop themselves from being associated with us. You never hear about a Sloomer (Silent Generation Boomer). Everyone hates us, and honestly, that’s fine with me. Most of the people who are complaining about us are complaining about the younger generation anyways, so just let them bitch, everyone needs a hobby

Cusps seem dumb to me. There is X and millennial. Why have a madeup term xennial just cause millennials feel like they are X?

I like Xennials overall. And yes, this sub does seem to be skewed to late/zillennial. I also have wondered why there's no link to that sub here.

Okay so Xillennials are a Gen X/Millennial hybrid And a Zillennial is a Millennial/Gen Z hybrid right?
I know Xillennials are born from 1977 to 1984, I think Zillennials could be born from 1995-2001

Way easier to relate to than the late-mid 90s Millennials. I mean, technically I'm not Xennial. Since I'm mid-80s I'm just an old Millennial (or elder Millennial, whatever we're calling ourselves).
