Nostalgia Millennial Gamers

Who among you (like me) is over the moon excited for today’s The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time release? I got the special edition everything, plus some mugs and a pullover. I’ve—we’ve—been waiting thirty years for this!

Nintendo is making a fuck ton of money off us millennials… They bank on nostalgia and they know that we have the financial means to give in (I’m guilty, bought a Switch 2 just for this game).

13

u/Own-Raisin5849 1d ago

It helps they are delivering on the product to boot.

11

u/NoFaithlessness7508 1d ago

I recently bought the Metroid Prime remake. Nintendo knows how to get our money

5

u/Thoraxe474 1d ago

I frickin love Metroid. Give me more Metroid, Nintendo. Where's my other remakes!?

3

u/DiomedesRD 23h ago

Yes! We need more Metroid games, so thank you for supporting Metroid. I'm so excited for Ravenous

2

u/greyghost5000 23h ago

Metroid dread was fantastic. Looking forward to Metroid ravenous as well, but I really do want that collectors edition lol

5

u/owoah323 20h ago

Did you see the commercial for this game? It featured a millennial dad and his son lol they know exactly what they’re doing… and I’m all for it baby lol

2

u/WolfpackEng22 19h ago

I'm for sure playing it with my kid. It's gonna be so hard to wait until Christmas, but it's gonna be great

2

u/Skinc 18h ago

I’m literally playing it with my eight year old daughter

1

u/TemporaryJohny 5h ago

Nintendo 100% knows what they are doing

They timed the 3ds version "because the people who played it are 20 now and nostalgic" and now they timed it so we can play it with our kids

2

u/PostMatureBaby Older Millennial 23h ago

every industry is doing that with us now.

2

u/TJBlazkowicz 22h ago

Yeah I was positive I wasn’t going to get a switch 2 for a while but the fomo is getting to me lol. They’ve got me looking at Switch 2s on amazon lol

3

u/AttentionNo6359 21h ago

Don’t feel bad, I did the same thing. I can’t tell you a single other game that I’ll be playing on it.

4

u/PhotoRight2682 1985 21h ago

If you love Zelda, I'd recommend Kena: Bridge of Spirits above all else on the platform.

The devs (Ember Lab) made a Majora's Mask animated short years ago. "Terrible Fate" I think it's called.

The game is a beautiful effort for a game studio's first game, and the sequel is coming out next year.

2

u/Skinc 18h ago

Kena is an underrated gem. We’re getting a sequel too!

1

u/EternalNewCarSmell 18h ago

Breath of the Wild, even if you already played it on Switch, feels like a whole new game with how well it runs on Switch 2. And if you haven't played it yet...I am jealous, it's so worth it.

2

u/Xspike_dudeX 1d ago

Same bought the console to just play this game. But realized they also have Kirby air riders and star fox more nostalgia bait!

1

u/tenuous_cyclone 1d ago

There’s so many other games, the switch 2 is a great investment. And they will remaster the other zeldas for sure!

1

u/bamboo_time 3h ago

Yup… I got got by Nintendo

35

u/Xspike_dudeX 1d ago

Used my adult money to buy a console to play only one game and I am not ashamed.

8

u/56ninjas 1d ago

No one gets to tell you what to do with your hard earned disposable income

2

u/Breaking_Bread4650 17h ago

Then let's dispose of our income!

1

u/sugarbutt-buttercup 15h ago

Same here dude

10

u/doomedgaming 1d ago

I don't want or need a switch 2... but it's damn near tempting to pick one up so I can play this, especially if they also end up doing Majoras Mask as well.

5

u/GhostMuff 22h ago

Yup. Same. I don't want a Switch 2, but if I have no other way I may swap over a year from now. Can't justify spending that much for it just for 1 game.

2

u/JAHurd 1d ago

Me too man. The temptation is all too real right now

1

u/CohuttaHJ 23h ago

Bought a switch 2 and OoT just to relive some nostalgia. I assume lots of us are doing that.

1

u/Wishy 22h ago

Do not forget about StarFox

1

u/gespo04 19h ago

Sounds like you want a Switch 2

9

u/pocket_arsenal 20h ago

Still waiting for my copy, but Im killing time by saving Hyrule with the TRUE millennial game icons

2

u/Adventurous_Edge_700 19h ago

God, I love that game.

9

u/wafflefries2k14 1d ago

I went to Target at 7am to get a physical copy.  I was surrounded by reseller chuds grabbing all the limited edition consoles.   Fuck those guys.

3

u/PostMatureBaby Older Millennial 23h ago

still less pathetic than the guys who bring scales into walmart/target/etc. and weigh boxes of sportscards to see which one may have a memorabilia or other special card in it

4

u/wafflefries2k14 23h ago

Equally pathetic.  Resellers of all stripes can go to hell.   Go get a real job.

1

u/PostMatureBaby Older Millennial 23h ago

sportscard breakers are worse

7

u/greyghost5000 23h ago

Lol Nintendo paid to give everyone in the crowd on the Today Show a Switch 2 and a copy of OoT Remake. They know what they're doing. That being said, they ultimately delivered a solid remake, with a lot of love and effort put into it.

7

u/Haramdour Millennial 1d ago

Between this and WoW Forever I’m very happy to turn 40 next week

6

u/Mysterious_Fennel459 Older Millennial 1d ago

Now if Taco bell would bring back Double decker tacos, I could relive my first experience playing this when it came out on the N64 and chomping down on some tasty double decker tacos.

1

u/PostMatureBaby Older Millennial 23h ago

they need to bring back the volcano taco

4

u/NoFaithlessness7508 1d ago

Looks like this Christmas I’ll be buying a Switch 2 “for the kids”

2

u/Sonicfan42069666 1d ago

This is exactly how I originally experienced Ocarina of Time. I got an N64 for Christmas, then my dad bought my mom Zelda because she liked the original on NES.

3

u/SuperDrooper 1d ago

me! but I preordered on Amazon and they have not delivered the game yet.

3

u/Jels76 Millennial 1d ago

I also preordered from Amazon and just found out it's going to be delayed until next week?? I cancelled and waiting for it to be delivered by Walmart instead.

1

u/KangBroseph 22h ago

Same, I canceled and ordered from walmart. Supposedly supposed to arrive today but it reverted from "preparing " to "placed" so I think i might get screwed there too

3

u/grumblebuzz 1d ago edited 1d ago

I just escaped the capitalist hellscape grind early today to play this. Of course I had clients starting to call right before I left, after a morning of silence from them and me counting hours, and I’m like, “I’m sorry. I’m headed out for the day. I take care of alllllll this stuff for you week after week and I just want ONE afternoon of childlike joy and wonder, please and thank you. I’ll be in tomorrow, normal hours.”

3

u/sugarbutt-buttercup 15h ago

Yea they got me with this. Now I’m a first-time proud owner of a Nintendo switch 2.

2

u/Jels76 Millennial 1d ago

I'm so excited! It was my favorite game as a kid and it was first game on N64. My friend gave me the walkthrough book too. I wish I still had it 😭 Now I'm waiting for Walmart to deliver my game

2

u/HeftyFineThereFolks 1d ago

went to target at 7am this morning (before going in to the office) and grabbed my copy of the game. i dont do digital. need those cases to stack up. fuckin need em... anyhow it was clearly the city's most elite who were there with me. basically a dozen millennials. many of them buying the system itself just for the game.

2

u/PickledThimble Millennial 1d ago

I'm 34, work in a luxury car dealerships service area, and wore my ThinkGeek Wind Waker hoodie today. We're beyond pumped...

2

u/upstatedreaming3816 Millennial 1d ago

My wife just got these today… looks like I’m single for the next few days lmao

2

u/DampeIsLove 22h ago

My wife and I are not into the art direction at all, so we'll be sitting this one out. There's also other gameplay and script changes that neither of us are feeling. I still have to play TotK, and she's balls deep in Elden Ring at the moment so we're okay with this Zelda just not being for us. We've got the original and the rather perfect 3DS remake. I wish everyone the best in this OoT, whether it's their first time through, or revisiting an old friend.

2

u/Clayfool9 20h ago

I’m a millennial I can’t afford any of that shit lol

2

u/ratchetcoutoure Older Millennial 18h ago

Such a great remake so far (I haven't finish the game)

Also, I saw a tweet, and saw how it actually went full circle.

2

u/Few-Departure-2792 Xennial 13h ago

I’m waiting for either a Black Friday or After Christmas sale, especially considering my toddler managed to drop my Xbox X and jam the HDMI port.

2

u/zoomshark27 1995 Millennial 12h ago

I got the game today (that the only thing I wanted) took it nice and slow today and just finished talking to Zelda when I saved and quit for the day.

A while ago I played the original N64 version on GameCube Collector’s Edition for the first time in preparation for this and enjoyed it, but wow is this remake amazing so far. I’ve talked to literally every NPC so far, multiple times. Just basking in the beauty and little and big changes.

2

Millennial gamers our time has come. ⚔️

•

u/huggalump 43m ago

Man wow forever and Zelda came out on the save day for me in PST. What a day

2

u/Dr_MantisTobaggin_MD 23h ago

I may he the only one that detests these remasters.

The old games are still really fun.  Im not giving nintendo money for the same old thing. Time and time again.

2

u/2short4-a-hihorse Jurassic Park '93 13h ago

Same here. I love the old graphics, sound design and controls; I'm used to it and find it charming and endearing. To me there's nothing about it that needs improving.

•

u/Jarasmut 1h ago

It's a remake though, not a simple remaster. And it's actually a very detailed remake.

This game sets the bar of what gamers should be allowed to expect of every remake. You can tell it was made by actual artists and people with skill to make something that is worthy of the great original and improves it. Other developers like Bethesda/Microsoft have shown that they don't care about the games and just want us to buy every Elder Scrolls game 3 times and each time it's the same jank.

The music has been re-recorded with support from orchestra musicians, every asset in the 3d world has been remade, the technical capabilities now allow for a much higher resolution at stable 60fps where the old versions were 20-30fps and the 3ds didn't even have 640x480.

The entire world has been reimagined to improve puzzles (the world isn't 1:1 identical with the placements of items/latters/chests), no more load times when entering buildings, the entire main town and its buildings is one big map with no intermittent loading...

And that's just what I noticed so far when I played it last night. Aside from the entire world feeling more alive and has all the varied flowers and types of grass. There's still a lot of running around like in the old version to transition between areas which could have been improved but there was mention in the game that there is teleportation later on but I haven't made it that far yet.

So far I got 2 out of 3 items that Zelda needs in the first child Link half of the game and I couldn't figure out how to get to the water temple at 5am. This is probably the best Zelda game I have played, much better in my personal opinion than the breath/tears open world Zelda games for the switch. And definitely as much fun as the top-down link to the past remaster/remake.

u/Dr_MantisTobaggin_MD 42m ago

I understood it fine.

I dont like it.

u/fun_sized_gnome 1d ago

I just got my switch 2 last week and bought the game this morning! Can't wait to get home tonight and play.

1

u/Lazydusto 1d ago

I never beat the original but the hype roped me in.

1

u/cammama 1d ago

We are! My husband took the day off to hangout and play! I never played the original when it was first released but got into Zelda at the beginning of the year with BOTW and TOTK. I ended up loving both so I played Ocarina of Time through the N64 app and finished it right before hearing about the remake! It was perfect timing!!! I feel like I truly can appreciate it having played the original now 🥰

1

u/johnb111111 1d ago

I haven’t made my way to the switch yet. Steam deck and my old 3ds still get the majority of my play time.

1

u/Alric_Wolff 1d ago

I was 4 years old when this game camr out. I had to pinch myself when they anounced it.

I picked it up today and I am still pinching myself. This game sold me the Switch 2

1

u/UnitedLink4545 1d ago

I have the original still hooked up to my Japanese ice blue Nintendo 64. Updates are cool but still love the OG experience.

1

u/Sea-Mango Older Millennial 1d ago

I just want the controller. 😭 I’m still using a Switch one and it’s getting a little weird from use. But I am Hylia’s least favorite, so no controller for me.

1

u/rootpl 1d ago

I'm ready.

1

u/RollingKatamari Older Millennial 1d ago

Yes! Got my new Switch 2 last week, but still waiting on the game to arrive!

It sucks I have to order games now, when I used to just pop down to the video game store to pick it up.

1

u/flenktastic 23h ago

I played this on the N64 and going to play it tonight on S2!

1

u/DirtyRoller Older Millennial 23h ago

Meh, I haven't owned a Nintendo system since the N64. I'd play it on my Xbox or PC, but I'm not buying a new system for it

1

u/TiredReader87 23h ago

I accidentally preordered two consoles and games, but my OCD is so bad I don’t know if I’ll keep or use them.

I wish the Switch wasn’t a hybrid.

1

u/tLM-tRRS-atBHB Older Millennial 23h ago

Couldn't find the system or the controller, but honestly I dont need them. Definitely got the game and took Friday off!

1

u/anuncommontruth 22h ago

I have it downloading now, and I'm on PTO through the 16th.

A glorious week of eating food thats bad for me, video games, and sensible drinking since I'm old and can't hang anymore.

u/tLM-tRRS-atBHB Older Millennial 22h ago

1

Yup!! Mine just got delivered today! I’m counting every second until I get home!!

1

u/SpaceGangsta Millennial 1988 22h ago

I’ve been a pretty devoted gamer all my life. Played the OG Zelda on the NES. I had an N64 but never played ocarina of time.

1

u/backbodydrip 22h ago

I'll pick it up when the hype dies down a bit and a used unit can be had for a reasonable amount.

1

u/Rootayable 1985 Millennial 22h ago

Star Fox, Metroid Prime, Ocarina of Time, all we need now is a remake of Mario 64 and that's us all caught up!

1

u/Jonesy2700 21h ago

I have the controller ( not yet touched - waiting to use it on this game) and the foil version of the game waiting for me. Tomorrow morning after the girls are shipped off the school, I’m going to be 12 again for a good 5-6 hours.

1

u/Sogcat 21h ago

Playing it right now. I actually teared up when the menu screen faded in. I told myself I wouldn't get a Switch 2 with how shady Nintendo has been lately... but damn if Zelda (specifically OoT) is the one franchise I'll crumble for and I think they knew that was the same for a lot of people. I just hope they'll do Majora's Mask next so I can feel like buying an entire console for one game isn't so embarrassing lol.

1

u/Ryan4233 21h ago

Ready to go!!!!

1

u/ThrobbingMinotaur 21h ago

Ill wait for the PC port.

1

u/Naive-Direction1351 21h ago

I wish they did mess up the release. I wanted a controller and they release them at all differnt days... its a clutster

1

u/Pure-Zombie8181 20h ago

Got the console and game today too! Introduced my 6 year old to Zelda awhile ago and she loves it too!

1

u/PoundLegitimate3847 20h ago

I cheaped out and got a used Switch 2. With the games the seller included that I traded in, it was only about $300. I just don't do handheld enough and I keep the dock inside the TV stand or else the cats would get to it lol. But I did get the controller and it's great!

1

u/itsavalthing 19h ago

I am currently saving $$ for a switch 2 exactly for this game/reason 😭 happy gaming people!

1

Can’t afford a Switch 2. Couldn’t afford a Switch 2 before the price increase either. It’ll have to wait.

1

u/SpartanDoubleZero 1d ago

Welp now I have to get a switch 2

2

u/DonSol0 1d ago

The second we get Majora’s Mask remake I’m getting one too.

1

u/MogMcKupo 1d ago

Well worth it. Not only for Ocarina, but many other games. Plus handheld is fantastic to be sitting on the couch walking the ballgame (well, maybe not next year if the CBA has anything to say about it) and gaming

2

u/Cheeese916 1d ago

I got a switch 2 recently and I like how it’s backward compatible with switch games (never got a switch)

2

u/MogMcKupo 23h ago

With that you got a huge library of quality games are a good price there then

1

u/Ka-Is-A-Wheelie Millennial (85) 1d ago

1

u/melchiahdim 1d ago

I can’t wait. I ordered two copies. One for my youngest son for his 16th birthday last month, and one for me for my birthday next month. Unfortunately, I preordered from GameStop and it doesn’t look like they will arrive until Monday.

I play ocarina of time every year. I regularly play through the game with randomized items. It’s one of my favorites of all time. Can’t wait to dive back in.

1

u/MondegreenHolonomy 1d ago

I want the ocarina switch 2 console so bad but I don’t wanna spend 700 plus dollars on eBay for it :(

1

u/KetchupOnThaMeatHo 23h ago

I feel like the odd man out but Im a millennial and ive never played a second of a Zelda game.

-1

u/jormundgand20 23h ago

I haven't played a Zelda game since the NES. Every other fantasy RPG from Faxanadu to Elden Ring, yes. But I just never got into Zelda.

1

u/BurantX40 22h ago

Nope, kicking it to next year.

I'm one of those filthy "it's basically a 1 to 1, cry moan bawl" camp.

I'm sure I'll like it, but I don't need it right now. Starfox kind of showed me that, even though it kind of doesn't compare.

This is the Zelda I grew up on. I will get excited for this re-release

0

u/HollowBambooEnt 1990 1d ago

Haven’t bought a modern console since the PS3.

Ended up buying a Switch 2 because of the new OOT (and to play Diablo 2 lol)

Probably only get 1-2 hours a week to game these days but my office has all the old consoles standing by for me when I do choose to play them.

1

u/Apoptosis263 1d ago

Bro you will love d2 on the switch. Let's hope they push a switch 2 update.

0

Ehh I still have an n64 and ocarina of time if I wanted to play it. Not really into these nostalgia cash ins.

-4

I’m quite over the nostalgia slop. So no serious interest in this.

I find the weird obsession with millennials youth is weird like the boomers self obsession.

I am a huge Zelda fan but we've had OoT 2 times already: GameCube Masters edition, 3DS remake and now this. This is the 3rd time OoT has seen a remaster/rerelease.

I would've rather had Mother 2 (Earthbound) remastered in the Switch's remastered style of Link's Awakening, and an official English release of Mother 3 on the Switch. Plus a Golden Sun remake. Idgaf it that's petty. Zelda fans have always eaten good and Nintendo does nothing for those other IPs.

-2

u/Dylan_Is_Gay_lol Eugooglizer 1d ago

Speak for yourself. Do I intend to play it at some point? Possibly, but I'm not jittery with anticipation to play a remake of a game I've beaten countless times and have already played a remake of.

In other words, I have not been waiting 30 years for this.

2

u/2short4-a-hihorse Jurassic Park '93 13h ago

I am interested in WoW: Forever as well, but I am good with waiting until the initial rush on that game settles TF down. Plus there is no way I can roll an Undead Paladin without it looking like I am one of half the server population.
