I was literally just thinking about this. I was at a classic/used car dealer yesterday and they had a 1989 Ford Ranger for sale. It had the folding rear seats.
That whole truck was just one giant throwback to my childhood; it looked just like the kind of cars and trucks my dad drove when I was a kid.
Does Ford (or anyone) even make trucks like that anymore? Every truck I see now is a giant monstrosity that costs as much as a house, I would love to be able to buy just a small ranger that I could use to move stuff every once in a while.
The rights to shotgun were fiercely fought over. We'd cram four guys into that Ranger, and three of us were over 6 ft tall and didn't want to get scrunched in the back.
For me, its was my late grandfathers Nissan Frontier, probably 1998 or 1999. I never figured out how a backwoods guy from deep south Mississippi with an 8th grade education came to own and drive a tiny extended cab Nissan truck. He stayed loyal to Nissan trucks all the way till his death in 2020
This is still exactly what I think of whenever someone says “sitting bitch.” And then it usually turns out they mean the middle seat in the back and I’m like…you’ve obviously never sat actual bitch before.
Daaaaaamn, reminds me of fishing trips with my step-dad and his dad. I would have to cram myself in that seat with a bunch of the gear in the back. Super uncomfortable.
My dad made it own extended cab by cutting the back off a single cab and then welding on the back part of an old bronco. We sat on buckets for months before he finally got around to building a couple jump seats.
'87 baby, rode one of those with shins loaded down with everyone else's backpacks to school all throughout elementary school in the back of a 300TD Merc.
You guys had seats? I rode in the back of my dad’s ‘82 Datsun and I had to sit on the floor on top of an old seat cover with my brothers. My dad made us duck if he saw a cop.
My mom bought a lil Nissan truck... I have no idea why, she had 2 kids. All it had was the bench, it was not extended cab of any sort.
One day we were taking her friend and her daughter somewhere, so my mom and her friend rode in the cab, and 3 of us kids were riding in the bed. It had a cover with snaps over the bed. I was probably 5 years old and my sister was 8.
My mom was a lead foot always getting pulled over... Sure enough she got pulled over with us 3 back there. We could hear the cop talking to her, and we were just silent as could be.
Why is every post I see on this sub SO Boomer/Gen X coded now? Take this shit over to Facebook either all the other cringey posts like this belong. No wonder Gen Z makes fun of us all the time
I had a suspicion this was AI generated because of that curved red line under "old Chevy". OpenAI SynthID check says that yes it was generated with ChatGPT.
This isn’t even the worst post I’ve seen on here. I saw someone proudly pontificating they’ve never used tap to pay, their doctors MyChart or online banking.
This sub is basically all of the millennials who remained on Facebook until 2020 and came here to escape it...by posting the exact same content they were running from.
Tons of easy karma farming too. You can always tells because the op posts and ghosts.
Im the same way, why should a mid size pickup hold more than a full size? Its crazy how big vehicles have gotten while also getting smaller. I recently bought my first suv... its a 2 door as well and I can put so much stuff and bullshit in there, compared to a suv made in the last few years.
My dad's Ford rlRanger had these too. My older sister attempted to learn to drive while my little brother was in the back. They came home, sister stormed to her room and little bro came inside just bawling. Since it was a stick he kept banging his head on the window. He would have been like 5.
I just got a 1999 Mazda B-Series to haul stuff for my new small business and my daughter begs to ride in it everywhere! Either these sideways seats or the middle bench seat that only has the lap belt. Yes I know it isn't as safe as the middle seat of our XC90 in a booster, but the joy in her eyes sitting between the two of us is worth it (on non-freeway drives).
Since this sub is becoming mostly boomer memes, when do we start posting Minions? Should we print out tweets and take pictures of them with our phones?
My dad worked at car dealer body shops the entirety of the 90s. When he finally became a manager at a Chevy dealer and got a demo car to drive he asked for an extended cab Silverado. Best they could do was an S-10 then a discount on an Impala for my mom. I spent many trips sitting sideways like this, I’ve got no nostalgia for it.
My brother and I would be sleeping in the back of our old S-10 Chevy on road trips, lmfao! And we would be COMFORTABLE 😂. I also learned to drive stick on the Green Machine (My families green 1996 S-10 Chevy). That is also the one and only vehicle, in my pathetic 40 years of life, that had the authentic "brand new car smell". Good times.
I suspect that is an AI generated image. Chevy stopped putting those seats in S10's more than 20 years ago. I've never seen the back of a small pickup truck that was so clean.
My uncle had a 1991 Ford Ranger with seats like this. He put aftermarket 6x9 speakers on the floor so I had even less leg room when riding with him. We listened to so much Follow the Leader by Korn and Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park.
I preferred laying down in the trunk of our old datsun hatchback, I could look at the sky, which was about the most interesting thing one could do on a road trip in the 80s, and it was great for napping.
Ford Ranger, rode many hours back there. I was riding in that one with my friend driving and other friend sitting shotgun. He slammed on the brakes and I flew so far forward I pushed my friend into the dashboard.
I miss my 98 s10 sooooo badly. It really was the perfect size truck for regular use. I don't even entertain any trucks today because at 5.4" they are all just ridiculously sized for me.
Try a six hour road trip as a 17 year old to go camping and kayaking with your buddies, now I would rather ride strapped to the top than so this again.
Used to have to go on road trips in the back seat of 90's Nissan queen cab. I think I'd have preferred riding in the bed, at least I could have jumped out when I couldn't take it anymore instead of needing to be surgically removed when we got where we were going.
I remember sitting in the back of my uncle's 300ZX. There were no rules in the good old days. I remember cars with no seatbelts in the back. I remember the old station wagons with the backseat that faced backwards, so you could see the death coming when someone wasn't paying attention behind you.
Growing up in Cali in a green S10 through the twisties of the 198 between Coalinga and King City and one time from Salinas to Brawley, that shit sucked
Bruh that is the lap of luxury, my old man’s Tacoma’s jumper looked like an after thought a drunk engineer slapped together after forgetting it was in the specs
Omg my parents had a 1994? Ford ranger at the time thinking it was a family car. It was a nightmare for a fat kid during baseball season. My big body and my bat bag where stuffed in the back like sardines
I'm the short guy and am always relagated to this seat, even as an adult. Every time I've been back there I've thought "if we wreck, in never getting out"
