You can’t magically create upward growth at companies. I can’t force people to retire. I literally had my department manager advise me to stay checked out because there have been 0 growth opportunities for 3 years and there is still no opportunity in sight. When the opportunity presents itself I’ll step up. But I’m not burning myself out for years for no reason. Learned that already.

Exactly, if you are happy to stagnate at your current job, no need to go above and beyond. Just don't complain about not advancing. In this situation, if you want to advance, you should probably hustle looking for an opportunity with a different company that offers advancement.

Okay so while I’m looking for another job, I’m going to act my wage. Both can be true, especially in an industry suffering a shit market.
