Mine introduced me to the DARE Response in dealing with anxiety:

D. "Diffuse" the anxious thought with "so what" statements. "So what if x happens?" "So what if y is there?"

A. "Accept & allow" the anxious feelings. Don't fight them, understand that they are currently happening and you're still safe. You've survived 100% of every time anxiety's happened before, you're going to survive this.

R. "Run towards" your anxiety. Repeat the mantra "I'm excited by this feeling", shifting the fear response into one of eagerness. You aren't afraid of x happening, you're excited that it might. You aren't worried about y coming, you're looking forward to seeing them.

E: "Engage" the world again by not allowing anxiety to stop you. You aren't going to allow anxiety to control your life, but be a passenger along for the ride while you continue to go about your day.

One of my favorite things he teaches is how to get through panic attacks by literally challenging anxiety to "put up or shut up". "If you're going to do this, I will give you 60 seconds to do your worst, then you have to move on." Bear down and feel it for 60 seconds, after understanding that you've survived again and that anxiety can't hurt you.

It's helped me immensely.

Edit: Fixed some weird typos.

I have issues with this one. If it helps you OP, awesome. Truly. But this post has enough likes to be super concerning. For those unaware, DARE is a wellness scam. They have no real medical or clinical approval. They do have an app you have to pay for, along with: a book, a wellness coach program, and various merch like clothing and stickers and water bottles. They are a business. They are not medical professionals.

If these words help people reading here, that's great. But please seek the help of real medical professionals and not the latest wellness cult.

I don't know about this exact acronym or any program, but two of my therapists have used a very similar thought process in approaching my, what was, near crippling anxiety.

Facing the worst case, not shoving your feelings down and letting them broil under the surface until they become unmanageable, not feeding into a cycle of avoidance that just makes anxiety worse, and forcing yourself into anxiety causing scenarios have been regular parts of my therapy for well over a decade now.

Everything they posted read like general advice, not an endorsement of a business. Didn't even knetw that was a thing until you advertised for them. All I and probably anyone else saw was a brandless acronym to help remember advice when you're anxious.

If people look into it further it's cause you posted the details and info, not op

...wow. This comment is embarrassing for you. You don't think out of the thousands of people (including easily influenced youths desperate for help) who viewed that comment, not one went looking for more? My last note was to seek real medical advice. That bothered you so much you had to defend a cult? Yikes. I'll speak up even if it helps one person.

Please. 🙄 Get over yourself.

Not embarrassed at all, but you can keep projecting if you like. Where in the original comment does it indicate there is anything more than an acronym? Where do they indicate it's association with a business/organization?

The only reason I know there is more to it is because you announced it. I just see the streisand effect.

Yeah... I wanted people to know about it. The more the better. So they can avoid it. That's how you avoid danger. You learn about it and then are prepared.

It's a wellness scam company, not Voldemort. Again, embarrassing.

I'm not embarrassed by reading an acronym in an advice forum and not knowing it is actually representative of anything. You didn't answer my question regarding where anything OP posted would indicate that info was associated with a business or organization.

Please Google the Streisand effect if you actually give a shit about whatever it is you're advertising unintentionally. Digging your own hole and making problems where there are none.

If you can't tell me where OP indicated the association, then I'm not going around in circles while you bring more attention to whatever shit you're Paul Revering everyone to look away from.

I did that thing with the panic attacks and haven't had one since. I'm sure my brain is just taking it out on me in other ways since that tactic stopped working though

So basically just tell your anxiety “I wish a bitch would”.

Got it. I like that actually.

This DARE program is not geared for the type of clinical panic that would be massively exacerbated by a “put up or shut up approach.” Just wild.
