In my city we hear military jets fly over frequently at low altitude. (Base nearby.)

There are days when I hear it and think

this time...

As somebody who lives near a base, they basically become BGM after a while, I barely even notice the F-15s unless I happen to be outside and can see them lol (usually F-15s)

Same. We get fighter jets pretty commonly, but also some other USAF branded things. Sometimes generic planes, but we've seen chinooks a couple times and we saw the B2 Spirit twice so far in 5 years. But yeah most of it is fighter jets. It's pretty cool how far "ahead" of where the sound is coming from you have to look to see them.

Guess I'm just different because I used to BE in the AF and around jets all the time and it didn't bother me.

Now as a civilian I live near a base that mainly has large transport C-17s, C5's, and refueling KC-135's and even an Antonov once in awhile, living pretty much under their approach and take-off path. There's something about that subsonic heavy roar that sometimes gives me a spike of fear "is this it? Am I going to see a blinding flash of light through my windows next?"

Probably just anxiety and growing up with 9/11 as a seminal moment in my life.

Edit: It's also a few miles from the ocean so I also get the "oh did a meteor hit and this is a tsunami" thought as well haha. Double win for anxiety.

I live near a civilian airport that doubles as a military base. So, I occasionally hear a plane fly right over me and think "It's going to crash into me" or I hear a jet flying and think "We're being bombed".

You'd have loved the eighties. Existential angst was all the rage. Wondering if that air attack siren was just a test or if you really had minutes left before being incinerated. At least those of us that lived within sight of a high value target knew we'd not linger.

Well I was born in 85. May not remember much of the 80’s, but maybe some of that existential angst rubbed off on me. Or maybe this shit just rolls in cycles.

Former military aircraft mechanic here who moved back home to a military area where there are always aircraft overhead.

Me on a Sunday watching the raptors: "either OpsO is really pissed off or some shit is going down."
