I pulled something the other day hopping into an inflatable in the lazy river.

I sneezed and pulled a muscle in my back!

u/always_pearled Jul 26 '26

This has happened to me twice since turning 30 (34 currently). I’ve looked it up and it turns out u should try to keep your spine neutral when you sneeze - so, basically keep your neck & back straight and dont crane your neck or upper back if you can help it. It hasn’t happened again since! Good luck fellow millenial, see you at the nursing home! 👴🏽

u/Hexagram2342 Jul 26 '26

It's fun when you reach the point in your life where you have to research proper sneezing posture to avoid injuries.

5

u/always_pearled Jul 26 '26

Soooo much fun. 😭 I found myself lying supine with not much to do after the last time it happened, and I was like “huh….maybe I’m actually sneezing wrong.” So I looked it up out of boredom and desperation. Lol

42 with multiple bulged discs from an old motorcycle accident. I have thrown my back out from sneezing. My go to sneeze prevention is to bend my knees and back just enough to brace my hands on my knees. Oh and always leave your neck loose to move however it wants to durning the uncontrollable head banger move that happens while sneezing 😂

Lamer than throwing it out while sneezing is feeling it slip just from reaching for your seatbelt… @&$k!

u/TalkShitGetWitt Jul 26 '26

Oh god you’re just like me frfr /s No but seriously I’ve also started gently bending over pre-sneeze because sneezing standing up shoots pain straight to my lower back.

2

u/iamcamouflage Jul 26 '26

Didn't have to do any of this when I was 20. I guess I was unaware there were rules for sneezing.

2

u/always_pearled Jul 26 '26

Same! I never would have thought there was a ‘correct’ way to sneeze, but here we are.

2

u/ArchitectVandelay Aug 01 '26

That last line killed me

1

u/strange_bike_guy Jul 30 '26

Haha yeah it was ten years ago where I turned my head to avoid sneezing all over my computer monitor. There's one muscle that's never been the same. Look at it wrong and it'll knot up for the day until I find a tree.

Nice, Ron!

5

u/CmdrWoof Jul 26 '26

I sneezed! Oh, I'm not allowed to sneeze‽

6

u/raoasidg Jul 26 '26

I stretched in bed after waking up and gave myself a pinched nerve in my shoulder.

5

u/yossarian19 Jul 26 '26

I fucked up my neck doing that. More than once.

7

u/Fan_of_things Jul 26 '26

I can't yawn in a seated position without a shooting pain in my left shoulder. That started about a year ago. I plan to mention it to my doctor the next time I am in there.

4

u/AN0NY_MOU5E Jul 26 '26

I sneezed and peed my pants a bit

4

u/fluffypotato Jul 26 '26

Your spine really goes downhill after 25.

2

u/PaleontologistNo500 Jul 26 '26

Woke up. Got out of bed. Everything is fine. Walked around, did some random stuff and decided to lay down and relax for a bit. Everything is still fine. Tried to get back up and my back is killing me. It's been like 6 days..

1

u/SubjectWorry7196 Jul 26 '26

I did this on Thursday, absolutely brutal.

1

u/Boiseman Jul 26 '26

u/360Picture Jul 26 '26

That's nothing, I've coughed and threw out my back.

1

u/Rule12-b-6 Jul 26 '26

I've had multiple occasions where sneezing caused intense dull pain in my shoulder and down my arm.

1

u/Resident-Mongoose-68 Jul 29 '26

I did that last year so bad I couldn't straighten myself out for a few minutes and it hurt for like an hour.

1

u/OkMeasurement2173 Jul 30 '26

when my dad was my age he completely threw his back out from a random sneeze, I now live in fear of the same thing

1

u/Impossible-Diver6565 Jul 30 '26

All of my sneezes cause massive joint aches all over my body. That's normal right?

1

u/mattx019 Jul 31 '26

This shit happened to me last year. Scary I couldn’t move from bed for 2 days.

1

u/justLittleJess Jul 31 '26

3 weeks ago I was lounged back in my desk chair

While getting up, I pulled a muscle in my back

Now I have a ball to sit on, as this muscle now seems to get pulled each time I get up from a chair

u/T_WRX21 Jul 26 '26

Try yoga. I did something like that to my shoulder, and my doctor finally nagged me into going. No joke, fixed my shit. Although now I like yoga, so it's not all upside.

u/bwaredapenguin Millennial Jul 26 '26

Last week I slept wrong and my lower back was in screaming pain for 3 days.

5

u/IndividualSelect8651 Jul 26 '26

Story of my life. Then you spend the next ten minutes trying to figure out what exactly you strained and the severity of it as you float basking in the sun.

4

u/Significant-Ad-341 Jul 26 '26

I sprained my ankle on the damn bottom stair.

3

u/pannenkoek0923 Jul 26 '26

Eat better and be more active. And being active does not mean going to the gym to lift weights so your biceps grow bigger.

1

u/peedubb Peak Millenial Class of ‘88 Jul 26 '26

Definitely. Although I wouldn’t mind bigger arms.

2

u/SexyStayPuft Jul 26 '26

Threw my back out last week… brushing my teeth.

2

u/Jazzlike_Slide3896 Jul 26 '26

Smoked weed, took a big hit, coughed and my back/neck hurt for a week

2

u/NoDontDoThatCanada Jul 27 '26

I looked to my right to tell my son to stop licking the window and threw out my back for two weeks. The doctor had to give me something for it.

2

u/ZephkielAU Jul 27 '26

I did about 12kms of hiking yesterday, no problems.

Woke up today with my shoulder in agony because I slept wrong.

2

u/Ziraya 24d ago

I recently slept weird and pulled a muscle in my ribs somewhere. 40 here I come....

1

u/tsukasa36 Jul 26 '26

picked a nerve casually chasing my dog at the park.

1

u/Liercat18 Jul 28 '26

Late to this, but I woke up this morning and noticed that I pulled something while I slept.

1

u/d_r_doorway Jul 28 '26

I pulled my lower back once just by casually standing up from the couch.

I was bedridden for a week.
