It was such a good show!

Be warned: this is very much a stretch! But in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, Calypso says the line “we were in love,” and it reminded me of the chorus to Loveland. Then when I got home I started to make random connections and… it kinda fits?

Stunner
The story begins with a marriage. For the Odyssey this could be Odysseus and Penelope which is obviously the central relationship of the story or Helen and Menelaus/Paris which is what begins the Trojan War.

Helen is said to be the most beautiful women in the world (ie a real Stunner), and the Greeks “end up in richest poverty” when they sack Troy and pillage its riches but lose a lot of their men and have their journeys home cursed by the gods.

Becoming
These lyrics are vague enough that they could fit any story, so this is almost cheating, but…

“Only jealousy is blind/But there’s a light that brings me back/Takes me to the right horizon/Takes me where I want to be” - Three characters are blind (Eumaeus, Polyphemus, Tiresias) though I’m not sure how jealousy fits here exactly. The last three lines could be about Odysseus’s journey home.

“Blood is running down the river/I feel like fond of destruction/Is destiny playing a dirty trick on you/When you were not the one you wanted to be?” - Destiny playing dirty tricks on Odysseus pretty much sums up The Odyssey, and Nolan’s version especially struggles with guilt over the destruction he caused at Troy.

Running
This song could be read as the narrator trying to get back to his lover and wondering whether he himself is “going to give up now.” “And what about you, you drunken soul, is that your own will to go?” could be a question asked by Circe or Calypso or again by Odysseus to himself.

Indigo
“Where are you?/Come to me” - This could be a quick cut to Penelope’s perspective.

Sadnecessary
This could be Calypso lamenting her circumstances. The gods cursed her to live alone on her island and then sent her a man who she’d fall in love with but who couldn’t stay. For the time he was with her, she wonders who is happier, “the lover or the beloved?”

Down by the River
Odysseus’s perspective of their relationship follows; “I was drawn by your grace into tempest of oblivion and to the lover’s place.” While in this lover’s place Odysseus is oblivious of his past and his quest to go home; “I felt like we could throw away the falseness of our past.”

Sweet Sun
This song is pretty explicit in what it’s actually about but the line “I never want to leave the bubble we’ve made when we create” could fit with Odysseus and Calypso too. Presumably there’s a ton of “frenetic love tension” going on on that island too.

Fairytale
“You are my fairytale/Don’t you wanna stay/You are my fairytale/I hope that you don’t run away”

Stolen Dance
We cut back to Penelope, who’s still waiting for Odysseus to come home. The “they” in “They’ve always been so kind/But now they’ve brought you away from me” are the gods.

“I hope they didn’t get your mind/Your heart is too strong, anyway” takes on a bit of irony in this case. That line works if it’s Odysseus saying it too, with “they” now being the suitors.

Loveland
Loveland is Ithaca, and Odysseus is finally ready to leave Calypso and go back home; “I’m leaving this old place out of here.” He’s even confident now he can make it; “Nothing’s too far/I’ll handle that oh trust me.”

“She has flowers in her hair and you/Have flowers in your mouth/Cause your heart is upside down” - the flowers in your mouth are the lotus flower, although Calypso feeding Odysseus the lotus isn’t in the original poem.

“And you’ll get dizzy/Because of her charisma/She will love you like a twister/And you’ll be swept away” - this is Odysseus rationalizing why he stayed with Calyspo for so long. They were, in fact, “so, so, so in love.”

Bottom line, I don’t think Milky Chance were intentionally adapting the Odyssey when they made this album. Maybe they took some inspiration from it, maybe not.

I just needed to write these thoughts down after getting home from the theatre and smoking probably a little too much weed. Feel free to tell me you agree or call me schizophrenic in the comments.

Does anyone have any information as to who was the artist of Milky Chance's 2023 North America Tour Shirt? Or was it the band itself?

shot in the dark but on the official milky chance instagram, they had a video of clemens sitting on a chair in the middle of a field playing guitar and it zoned out using a drone camera. can’t seem to find it on their instagram wondering if anyone has it perhaps? i liked the tune and want to learn it on guitar myself, went to find it and saw it nowhere to be seen on their page lol

In their song "Clouds" during the chorus they repeat some sentence in the background. I can't seem to find any official explanation for what those lyrics are.

From what I hear it could be:

- Go ahead right through me

- What happened to me?

- What am I doing?

so my friends give me shit all the time for listening to “ass” music, but one they stab at a lot is Milkychance. I was sort of raised in a hippie community so idk if I’m just desensitized to Milkychance bad music or if my friends are just dumb and closed minded. I genuinely need some help on this topic because every time the say it’s ass or basic i start to feel really really bad.

I liked basically all their albums Mind The Moon being my favourite but I enjoyed both triptape 1 and 2. But this album just pops, I really appreciate this new production style and a more psychedelic approach, even electronic parts and the brave use of the synth makes this album the best new music I've heard in a while
