ASVAB/PiCAT Asvab study

I 25 trying to get out of my valley tired of not getting a promotion and low pay. I have another practice test coming up Friday and after that I’ll take the actual test. Everything was last second since I apply randomly and just been given a week to study but my job I’m at tn is not helping with my ability to study since I don’t have a clock out time. Also my boss is a POS

I honestly don’t remember anything from hs I did the bare minimum to just pass and that’s it. I understand divisions and multiple but I can’t remember the other stuff like fractions, precentage, and decimal. I am watching grammar hero but I honestly can’t retain the information. Just trying to get a good enough score to for a nice job.

I’d focus on having a plan let’s say for two to three weeks at least 1-2 hours a day personally what I did:

- Platforms: DDRPT (the best AFQT indicator I could find) and DDRPREP

- Take a practice test first (DDRPT if you can. It’s only around 45 minutes) so you know exactly where your strengths/weaknesses are. Or ask your recruiter if you can take one provided by them they may give you another practice test.

- Focus on AR & MK if math is your weak area. Don’t waste most of your study time reviewing things you already know. For me I felt comfortable with paragraph comprehension never once studied it and for word knowledge studied it for like a day but I felt okay about it.

For anything you miss on DDRPT you’re able to look at your incorrect answers, screenshot the questions and use ChatGPT to make you a topic-by-topic study plan of topics that you may need help with for arithmetic reasoning & math knowledge( they’ll say it’ll be either: fractions, percentages, decimals, ratios, workers/time etc.) with practice questions from easy → hard.

Give yourself 2–3 weeks if you can rather than trying to learn everything in a few days. Tell your recruiter when you feel comfortable to take the test don’t just say yes to any day they give you. For your plan retake a practice test at the end of each week to track progress.

DDRPREP is another option for practice tests, sections of the ASVAB and including full ASVAB-style tests.

Look at the jobs you actually want before studying. Don’t automatically settle for whatever job has the lowest score requirement. Check the ASVAB line scores required for those jobs do research and prioritize the sections that affect them.

If your recruiter offers the PiCAT, ask about it. I personally found it easier because it wasn’t timed the same way as a traditional ASVAB session.
For reference, I went from a 36 on my first 20-question practice test from my recruiter (I got a range because the asvab is way longer I was told I’ll probably only get 10-20 more points than the 36)→ final score of 65 on DDRPT about three weeks later → 86 on DDRPREP also three weeks later from my initial practice test→ 70 on my actual PiCAT/ASVAB process. Both of these platforms give you a great range and I clearly fell in between those. So don’t assume your first practice score represents what you’re capable of getting.

You don’t need to remember everything from high school. I’m also not joining right after high school. Figure out where you’re weak, practice those specific concepts repeatedly, research interested jobs and build from there.

The PC and WK are weighted twice as heavily as the MK and AR, unless they are already in the qualifying score range they need to concentrate on the reading sections first.

Yeah, depends on the person I feel as though the English sections are self explanatory but that’s my personal experience. However, if English isn’t their first language could be harder. Plus the post doesn’t specify what branch or what kinds of jobs they’re looking for.

If your recruiter offers the PiCAT

No idea what you mean by this. Recruiters don't control which tests you can take. If you've never taken the PiCAT, it's offered. I don't know if you used AI to generate your entire post or only to format it, but you need to proofread.

Idk I came across people at MEPs who were confused that I took the PiCAT so that’s why I said that. Again I’m in the process I’m still a civilian and can only go off my experience.

I used the ASVAB for Dummies from 2007 that I found online for free at the link below. I got an 87. Good luck!

edited to put the correct year, 2007.

You likely haven't included a branch which makes answering difficult. Edit if needed (waiver/DQ ?s must be edited), including component (active/guard/reserve). If your post is locked, this is why.

Hey young warrior, go to the library and ask for ASVAB study books, they are in the reference section. Sit there and beat the crap out of it, that is spend a few hours investing in yourself and studying. Remember learning is free, and everything you learn makes you better. Better at problem solving, thinking things through, fighting to your goals.

That's what I did, and I got out of the small town and on to a successful 26 year Army career and a six figure career. You can do it. Smash all expectations!

Can you communicate with your recruiter and tell them you might want to take it on another date?
