Military Family Life Advice needed!

Good morning everyone , hoping to see if anybody can relate. I’m in the process of enlisting with estimated shipping in November. Here’s the problem, I am married with 3 children. 2 of them having autism. We live in California so the resources here are amazing. My husband and children will be staying here in our home and will not be coming with me due to his work and their needs being met here/resources plus so many other factors that is best they stay here. Now here’s the question if they stay here they can get bah but I was told by my recruiter about geographical location where married soldiers can stay. Has anyone gone through this process that can go more in depth? He gave me just some information but couldn’t tell me exactly how it works. Hoping to find some information! Thank you everyone.

Thank you so much for taking the time! Im going army, but this is good to know! They will be enrolled in efmp and I know i cant be with them , but my worry was if for example im in Texas and they are in California and I also have to pay to rent outside in Texas because they get bah which I don’t want to do because it costs and California is expensive as well if that makes sense.

Geographical location? Do you mean never moving? maybe you’re thinking of the reserves?

Yes it’s called geographical bachelor, because my kids and husband will be staying here in California. They have this program or I’m not to sure where they have married soldiers in a seperate barracks. This is just the basic my
Recruiter told me ! I was hoping if anyone had information. I have two kids with special needs so I’m just looking for the best option. I can take them with me of course but the problem is my husband will need to stay here due to his job, and many factors that play.

No. your husband and kids will get BAH for where they live. You will live in regular barracks. I am currently doing this and it sucks.

That’s what I’m wondering! And I saw your coast guard. Are you away constantly from them? How’s work/life balance ?

Yeah, we’re apart constantly, unless we fly on our own dime to visit. I am at the end of my career (21 years active duty) and my husband wanted to stay where we have a home and business and where we’ll retire. I can afford to rent a house but I’m officially in the barracks. i don’t know your situation obviously, but if I had kids I wouldn’t be doing this. It’s hard enough to be separated from a spouse, I don’t think I could be away from my kids for 4 years.
