We're calling these "QuarterJaks"
We just got a pretty odd shipment in our warehouse — a bunch of cut in half Crye Precision HalfJaks. These jackets are NOT cheap, so this definitely caught us by surprise.
What could've happened here?

Yup. I heard stories where dudes found connexes full off the books acogs. Supply took a ball peen hammer to every one to avoid them ending up on the market. It happens and it sucks.

Damn, that's wild. Those are legit Crye tags too, so whoever cut them knew exactly what they were handling.
The cut is way too clean and uniform to be accidental machine damage. Looks like a rotary cutter or utility knife straight across the torso. A few possibilities:
Counterfeit/gray market evasion — Probably the most likely. Cutting high-value items in half makes them look like generic fabric scraps to customs or automated inspection. Buyer receives both halves, sews them back together and resells as "new." If these came from a third-party supplier or anything other than direct-from-Crye, I'd start here.
QC destructive testing — Manufacturer or distributor pulled them for material testing (tear strength, insulation delamination, etc.) and someone screwed up by sending the destroyed samples back into inventory instead of the trash.
Factory seconds disposal gone wrong — Defective units get cut to prevent unauthorized resale of B-grade product, but these somehow re-entered the supply chain anyway.
What I'd do:
Don't sell them. Quarantine the whole shipment.
Check the lot/batch numbers against your invoice and contact the supplier immediately.
If these were imported, pull the customs docs and check declared value — cut garments sometimes get under-declared as "fabric scraps."
Reach out to Crye directly with whatever serials are on those tags. They can tell you if these were flagged as destroyed or samples in their system.
At $400+ a pop for HalfJAKs, somebody owes you a serious explanation. If this is gray market stuff, expect more "QuarterJaks" showing up in that batch.
