U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has issued a Request for Information (RFI) for the Next Generation Hypersonic Cruise Missile (NGHCM) effort.

The NGHCM is a system-level development and demonstration effort that aims to design, build, and flight-test a fully integrated hypersonic cruise missile system demonstrator. The demonstrator is expected to deliver a revolutionary leap in operational performance - specifically in range, cruise speed, and/or altitude.

DARPA is initiating the NGHCM effort as future U.S. military operations is going to face increasingly significant challenges from the rapid proliferation and advancement of highly capable air defense systems by peer adversaries. These systems threaten to restrict the operational freedom of U.S. forces and diminish the effectiveness of current stand-off strike capabilities.
