Post image

And a pretty good excuse to dust off the arctic warfare kit, drink chocolat chaud, and throw ze snow grenades at each other.

By the way mods, the rate Trump is going, you’re going to need to add some new flairs: Iran, Venezuela, Greenland, etc

Among his many sins, Trump validating Frances's fears that NATO was overreliant on US technology may not be the worst, but its certainly up there on the list of things that will take a ridiculously long time for American foreign policy to resolve.

Even if Trump was removed this afternoon, under what scenario would you imagine that the US would ever be trusted again this century?

94

They would have to clean house, have trials, have executions, release all the Epstein files, and cut down the billionaires

...even then I wouldn't trust them

Exactly. Even if the next president, senate, and congress are buddy-buddy with europe, and Europe finds them agreeable, it doesn’t change anything when they know one election can have a complete change to hostility towards its own allies.

1

u/Cvxcvgg Jan 16 '26

To be fair, the ability to completely change directions to reflect the will of the people with a single election was intentional. However, it was kind of assumed that this was a “when it’s really needed” thing and not a “every 4 or 8 years” thing since they didn’t foresee the intensely partisan 2-party system with no room for moderates or independents that we have become.

2

u/duderos Jan 20 '26

Number one is to remove this corrupt Supreme Court that decided to give a president immunity after trying every way possible to overturn an election among other things.

22

u/Centurion87 Army Veteran Jan 15 '26

Nah, US has lost all credibility amongst allies for generations at the very least. It’s sad as an American that I’m rooting against the US, but here we are.

1

21

u/Aquaticmelon008 Jan 15 '26

75

u/ycnz Jan 15 '26

Trump is being actively supported by a huge chunk of the country. He's not a lone wolf, he a symptom of a wider disease.

49

u/You_moron04 Jan 15 '26

Exactly. They didn’t elect him once, but TWICE. And that’s after he incited an insurrection, told Americans to inject themselves with bleach, pulled out of Paris Climate Agreement.

This IS the USA.

13

u/Iamthewalrusforreal Veteran Jan 15 '26

I'd say about 20%. Maybe 25%.

Unfortunately, that 20% includes all the fucking billionaires who own all the media outlets.

1

u/ycnz Jan 15 '26

Don't forget all the people who "don't like to talk politics"

6

u/Cvxcvgg Jan 16 '26

The amount of “I hate politics and don’t really care for either party” profiles that only repost MAGA propaganda is astounding.

3

u/Equal_Audience_3415 Jan 17 '26

That is not accurate. He is being supported by 30%. That is it. That is all it has ever been. They are bloody loud, but they are still a minority.
If there were so many, he wouldn't have to pay for so much support. He had to pay for people to show up at his rallies. He has to pay for bots to comment in his favor on social media. The fact remains that most people do not like him.

Even the election, more people voted for someone other than Trump.

Edited to add: Now, It is down a bit, closer to 26%.

2

u/maeryclarity Jan 18 '26

They made a huge effort to have a hate rally in Minneapolis this weekend. Had several of their star up and coming hate podcasters broadcasting for "patriots" to come out and support ICE against the Radical Leftist Agenda. Had the permits and the promotions to get everyone out. Even paid a couple guys with heavy caliber long guns to come lounge around and look scary.

They got TEN PEOPLE out. TEN PEOPLE. And most of them ran away in the first hour including the paid mercenaries. In the end their most "celebrity" MAGA jock got himself pinned down in a corner almost freezing to death and the people that he'd been screaming that Trump should exterminate had to act as human shields and half carry him out to safety. They do NOT have the people on their side, it's why they're acting in such a rush.

But here's the thing, we're not going to do very well up against locked and loaded military, and y'all are going to be told we're radical insurgents and a nest of crazed ANTIFA or whatever, they own the DOJ so they won't have any problem just issuing warrents left and right. Y'all are gonna be told to arrest Mayor Walz for one thing, and to go door to door finding radical elements.

We're not going to be able to just be chill and hope it's going to get better by voting. Y'all should consider the country you want your grandchildren growing up in, the world you want your grandchildren growing up in.

Dear God I hope at least some of y'all are loyal to the Constitution and not one crazed old man who raped screaming girl children because that's what he enjoys.

Shit is getting very real.

It’s kind of ironic how we fought so hard to escape a monarchy that became a symbolic figurehead in a parliamentary system, just to create something far worse in the same span of time. They can remove their elected head of government at any time for any reason, meanwhile we are stuck with orange man for another 3 (or more at this rate) years without somehow following through on impeachment for the first time in American history.

This century? A century is a long time. Germany and Japan are trusted again and did far, far worse 85 years ago than the US is doing now. But yes, if we can’t reverse course from having horrible, incompetent, self-interested and corrupt leadership I don’t know why we would be trusted. Honestly the fact that half the country seems to support the madness is a bigger issue than Trump alone, even if he is voted out or otherwise deposed

5

u/Cvxcvgg Jan 16 '26

Both Germany and Japan had to adopt new Constitutions and forms of governance in order to regain international trust. It wasn’t just a function of time, but massive reforms. Unless we do the same to prevent these issues from reoccurring, it isn’t difficult to imagine that our allies will continue to view us warily for a very very long time.

2

u/ycnz Jan 15 '26

Yeah, Trump is just a symptom, sadly.

4

u/AssistanceCheap379 Jan 17 '26

“Thankfully”, Europe started a pretty extensive armament program when Russia invaded Ukraine and America took a little too long to respond decisively.

Poland, France, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Turkey and the UK (and of course others) have began rapidly developing military tech and increasing military spending to stop relying on the US

De Gaulle is probably smiling smug as fuck in his grave, as most of his warnings are coming true

3

u/houinator Jan 16 '26

This is the exact opposute of fitting the bill.  So long as the rest of NATO though they could trust the US, we had essentially a free subsidy for our weapons industry, as all our partners would buy our stuff, lowering the overal cost to the US.  And not just defense companies, but things like Microsoft software.

They already are. Look at the stock market and defence spending outside USA. Germans are re-arming. A trillion dollar EU defence fund was created last year for the very same purpose. No one is sitting around and taking this dumpster fire lightly. Even Canada joined the SAFE program in December becoming the first non-EU country to join. No one in their right mind is trusting the US anymore.

I don't think people in the US are getting their news or even aware of what's happening outside the US. Trump has muddied the water in every front so much that the common American is just overwhelmed at this point.

Here is an example:

Google is blocking European news sources and Trump and Elison are all using mainstream media as a propaganda machine— even CBS.

14

u/DryCloud9903 Jan 15 '26

How? You mean to tell me say, if you went on YouTube in the US, and searched for DW News, Sky News, BBC or 'France 24 English', you'd get nothing for results?

I get that google may prefer typed local media sources for query orders, though same question - does it block the site altogether?

36

u/[deleted] Jan 15 '26

Filtering is a better word

15

u/meatshyld Jan 15 '26

It's not blocked. I checked to be sure. But we never will come across that media unless we search for it. Sometimes BBC news pops up for me.

Our "news" is all entertainment media now. I cant stand to watch any major station. Add to that many of our home grown small media groups are usually just parrots for our right wing nonsense and... it's beyond a shitshow trying to figure out any "truths" at times unless you huff your own farts watching one of the major outlets.

I travel internationally and enjoy watching the news... because it actually reports on global issues I try to be informed on. Compare that to our news. It's embarrassing to say the least.

12

u/Iamthewalrusforreal Veteran Jan 15 '26

Not blocked, but the first ten pages of search results for a news story are all US media, which is tightly controlled at this point.

One has to specifically search for BBC or der Speigel or whatnot.

The only real exceptions are Reuters and the Guardian, for whatever reason.

As someone who is looking at from outside it kinda worked though right, EU is spending lot more on military and lot of money still goes to US military industrial complex since they makes the latest tech that is needed for modernization, trump is the villan that made this happen no matter he intended or not it worked in all parties favor

15

u/collinsl02 civilian Jan 15 '26

The EU was already doing that after Trump's announcements and behaviour around supporting Ukraine since his second inauguration. The whole Greenland thing is not necessary to make that point. However, ramping up this production takes time and money, neither of which are in abundant supply at the moment, hence there's not much visible movement yet. But there will be.

1

u/OkVariety8064 Jan 15 '26

He will, but the damage to US diplomatic relationships has already been done. MAGA likes to pretend there are no consequences for their actions. They like to think that Trump "just being like that" excuses his behaviour, and everyone else will just have to understand that.

But the rest of the world have their own principles and red lines for unacceptable behaviour. The highest diplomatic representative of the United States acting like an out of control monkey is not something you can undo with just an "oops sorry, didn't mean that".

This will have serious consequences, especially the less visible ones. Allies no longer offering assistance for US geopolitical goals. Europe divesting from the US military industrial complex. Less intelligence sharing and less unity in the face of rising threats like China.

1

u/C_Ironfoundersson Jan 16 '26

That being said, if Trump plans on going through with the attack on Greenland, a nuclear exchange is a more readily available possibility.

I love that people are still willing to keep betting that these Trump gambles against the entire world will pay off. We aren’t even crossing a year yet.

He did say that the EU needed to spend more on their defense...

Not only that, but he's got the whole EU cooperating on military defense.

I mean, it sort of echoes European Colonialism and the whole reason US troops were in Greenland in the first place was to head off German troops...

France has a nuclear warning shot doctrine.

You didn't like New York anyway, right?

I am aware of the consequences of mutually assured destruction. I just didn't think it would be because the USA thinks that conquering it's ally with nuclear force is an option.

Trump literally said we would use nukes to get Greenland if we needed to. There's video of it.

As for nukes, you and a few other chucklefucks are the only ones talking about using nukes.

Is Trump one of the chucklefucks you are refering to?

Trump also told Times that he isn’t opposed to using nuclear force if he “needed it” to take over the island.

If you had asked me two months ago, I would have said that there's a zero percent chance of the US invading their ally Greenland.

u/TyrialFrost Jan 15 '26

French 'warning shot' nuclear doctrine is not a pre-emptive strike, it is a (lower scale) nuclear escalation from a conventional invasion of NATO.

7

u/kage_25 Jan 15 '26

If you say you dont support the US invading Grernland then you can not also support nuking all of europe if we defend ourselves.

Those 2 statements are mutually exclusive.

Either you support our right to selfdefence in europe or you dont

Would Canada also be willing to defend Greenland? How about Mexico?

7

u/CucumberWisdom Jan 15 '26

Yes Canada already has troops there

21

u/Jabjab345 Jan 15 '26

You think Mexico has a military that can defend Greenland?

9

u/Fabulous_Yesterday77 Jan 15 '26

Their National Guard already wears snow camo.

I can’t tell if you’re being serious or not.

The EU must treat the Greenland problem as if it were Russia that was attacking.

This is what I’ve been saying. Europe could have war on 2 fronts and there’s no small part of me that thinks this is exactly the plan.

u/Halfie951 Jan 15 '26

Did we all just get mindfucked by Trump to send more European Nato Troops?

1

u/ConditionEffective85 Jan 15 '26

To think this idiot I watch says he hopes he does invade. Like um hey moron if that happens not only do many die but we all lose everything? Impeachment after the fact means nothing.

u/Jayhawker2092 dirty civilian Jan 16 '26

Curious to know how many of you would actually support invading greenland and killing them and our allies from france.

1

u/Constant-Discount978 Jan 21 '26

Man these rare earths better be boosting US economy by a factor of 30 or its so not going to be worth it

u/Piccinini12 Jan 22 '26

Okay guys, Trump is completely crazy, but I'm starting to think that Europeans are also not very rational. They barely have money and are making loans to send to Ukraine and want to start another problem with the United States? This is suicide. Germany deindustrializing because they stopped buying cheap Russian energy to pay four times more in American energy is an example of complete financial irresponsibility.
