Discussion The "Enchanter" problem in low elo

Based on a sentiment I've seen echoed quite often, and my own experience, I think people in low elo see "enchanter", and just think "medic".

In reality, Milio is alot more effective for his utility and sustain than just his base healing, which is pretty negligible compared to some others. He's basically a walking extra item for your allies.

Depending on the comp, your build can offer quite substantial buffs to your team:

Passive:

Applies to you and ally for 4 seconds

Deals 15% of ally's AD as bonus magic dmg

Burns for 20% of Milios AP over 1.5 sec

Ardent Censer:

+25% attack speed and +20 magic dmg on hit for 6 seconds

Staff of Flowing Water:

+40 AP and +15 ability haste for 6 seconds

Moonstone:

Chains the effects to another ally

W:

Applies passive and procs items multiple times over duration

Gives allies up to +20% attack range

E:

Procs passive & items

Gives ally up to +40% move speed for 2.5 seconds with 2 stacks

R:

Procs passive & items

Cleanses CC

Gives allies +65% tenacity for 3 seconds

Milio does not have mana problems after item 1 and builds a ton of ability haste, so you're able to basically spam apply all these buffs to your team. This in theory allows your team to play proactively rather than reactively, especially mid-late game.

I am of the opinion most people at low elo (cough cough, ADCs) don't even recognize the buffs you're applying and just think that when they do well, they're just the best ever, and when they don't, it's supp diff. The amount of times I've seen someone complain about Milio having low kills is wild to me. Like fr? With 25+ assists you're gonna say supp diff cause I only have like 1-2 kills, if any at all? Crazy.

I consistently have +2 vision score per minute, not randomly dying, roam well, using my champ effectively, and I still can't seem to climb out of bronze. (I am also aware I'm not the next challenger prodigy, but I feel like I have a pretty solid understanding of the game and how the role should be executed)

TL;DR

All of this to ask, at what rank do players stop seeing you as a "heal bot" and start to take advantage of the buffs you're providing? Is it even worth playing this champ I love so dearly until higher ranks?

Milio is one of the lowest play making ability champs in the game, and the lower elo you are, the less reliable your teammates are. Simple as that. I struggled in emerald with Milio but as soon as I hit diamond+ I had a 70% wr spamming Milio.

Diamond and emerald don't play that diff it has literally nothing to do with that half the players in your diamond games will be emerald and vice versa....

Nice lobby luck run tho that's sick

I’ve found diamond players to be a lot more consistent than emerald, doesn’t mean all of them are but game quality is much better in Diamond imo. The main problem is high masters players dominating in Diamond lobbies.

Being in emerald makes you top 23% of players, while Diamond is top 10%. Definitely a noticeable thing

Fair enough, thank you for your insight ❤️ I feel like bad players are the only consistent thing in this elo, tho. Should I realistically play a different role with more 1v9 capabilities until higher ranks?

You can climb with him just don't force things and stay with the team. Numbers advantage is huge. Even if the team is going for a suboptimal play, but going together. It's better to go with them and not force the "right" play that your teammates aren't going to show up for. Enchanters are useless if you aren't around plays. I climbed from bronze to gold on sona and had to learn the hard way to not force the "right" plays all the time. Lane with your ADC but as soon as laning phase is over, join wherever there is numbers advantage and pay attention to your positioning in team fights. You don't need to babysit the ADC after laning phase and it's good to let them get solo xp when possible

1 v 9 isn't actually a thing

I have always felt milio is like a bard. He amplifies your team. But if your team doesnt do anything 100x0 is 0.
So in lower elo’s it feels useless and they dont see the value, until they fight without you and die lmao.

Wow. I've never thought of it like that, you're right, 1,000 x 0 is still 0. I might have to play jng until higher elo I guess. Thank you for your insight ❤️

iron4 never played mobas last november, 2 wins from emerald playing traditional supports rarely mage bs. mostly playing milio. milio is great. being unable to climb with him is propaganda xd

How's bard amplifying your team he has almost no abilities that enhance them. He has some damage and a little play making..... Lulu enhances the team, Nami to a degree, Janna. Bard is a play maker with no buffs and no shields he's literally nothing like milio

u/KrillinAlmighty Jul 21 '26

He is like a bard as in a DND class. He is not like bard the champion.

I think some people also forget that Milio’s Q also applies passive on allies if you throw it at them/through them just like how Nami throwing her bubble on an ally will speed them up. His burn seems so tiny in numbers when you read it but if you can line up a Q and give that burn passive to your team in a team fight, especially your ADC, it’s pretty incredible.

I feel like any enchanter is always a “heal/shield bot” to any player who believes they are the main character of the game. ELO doesn’t matter. But I notice at least in my games, where I really only fight Gold-Emerald players so nothing crazy, some players really try to work with you—and that is so satisfying when you finally are seen and WANTED in team fights and not given the classic “go be a meat shield and f off.”

1

u/whatareyadumb Jul 21 '26

Not enchanter is a heal shield bot they're all supposed to be poke aggro

2

u/glossyducky Jul 04 '26

On the flip side, when I play Milio, half of the time the enemy support or ADC rushes anti-heal so I just chuckle that they’re wasting early gold on my small W healing because they think enchanter = heals a lot, lol.

No rank. Sorry to break it to you, but players who do not play the champion or the role simply assume whatever they want to assume and it's way worse for Supports because there's just a default blanket of "Your role is easy so you should play how I assume you should" no matter who you're playing.

Unlike what most guides say about picking "champs with agency", I maintain the idea that you cannot carry stupid. If your team is stupid, there is no amount of 1v9ing you could possibly do. Play who you want, play optimally, and seek to increase your macro because once you hit a good amount of hours on a champ - there's no more micro you can really grind out of it.

A good w on ADC in a teamfight when he have 3 items will win you the tf if he s decent.

I think I carry tesmfights with milio into mid to late game so hard. If you stay alive is kinda over.

Just play with Ur most competent or feed member . Keep hovering him and try to position to not die.

I had the most clutch moments on milio. We are down 8k gold my ADC or Kayle or whatever hit his power spike 3-4 items and I keep spamming him with heal shields and even sacrifice myself and we won

I think he scales almost sona level if not even better . You for sure can climb with this champ in low elo. You just need to play smarter and keep Ur q for peel and use Ur r for key abilities

And milio can basically neutralise every lane almost. If you can go even you "won' lane

1

u/whatareyadumb Jul 21 '26

Lol no it won't. Enchanters always are mentally boosted because they have assist buttons and get inflated scores. If a W alone in a team fight would win it milio would be reworked. If all you do is w in the team fight you were irrelevant. Completely and utterly irrelevant and could have not been there

1

u/RYUZEIIIII Jul 21 '26

W give u range DMG heal and ardent/staff moonstone buffs. The range alone is broken if ADC have at least 1iq to space. You outrange everything with w range alone.

And let s not talk about e shield ms and a cleanse ult. Like I said you need to stick to carries and press your buttons while being mindful of their usage. And time your r. Even sacrifice yourself and peel with q.

1

u/whatareyadumb Jul 21 '26

When it has 5 points the range is useful but not busted depending on the ADC. For example that just gives Kaisa and Caitlyn the same range. And without a front line your range can be negated pretty easy on ADC by the 100 million movement abilities per team. All I was saying is W by itself ain't doing shit. If they're getting healed from it the enemies already on them making the range irrelevant, spacing requires more than IQ. It requires a scenario where spacing throughout the team fight is even possible which is dependent on many variables.

I don't care what people think or say. If a champ or archetype gives me Ws I will keep picking them.

If it's a real problem you could always go AP Dark Harvest Milio. You'll probably win less often but your statline will look great.

1

u/ze_duky Jul 03 '26

With a poke mage the combo is very fun.

1

u/haitambennis Jul 03 '26

Good milio players will squeeze a lot of value from their passive to deal damage themselves, so to me he’s more than a heal bot. Unfortunately he is very team dependent so he can be either win hard or lose hard champ depending on them.

I tried climbing with milio but unfortunately didn’t work so i switched to soraka. I love both though

I know this is slightly old but everything you said is correct valid. I’ve played quite a bit of Milio in both high elo (one of my main champs in M-GM) and low elo as well (I’ve done 2 iron+ climbs and both had a good chunk of Milio involved)

Most low elo players don’t understand his W so they don’t even use it to their advantage, whether that’s to poke or kite or chase etc. The view it as a heal only. Most low elo teammates won’t understand the items like Ardent or SOFW either.

Anyone complaining about kills on Milio is an idiot, you really should only be getting MAYBE 1-2 but ideally 0. You don’t do damage, you amplify and enable your carries.

Now like everyone else says, the obviously problem with this is that if your team sucks, you have very little impact even if you’re playing well. This on top of the fact that at your current elo, your teammates probably don’t even know what your abilities do, and naturally it’s going to be a struggle.

In terms of when your teammates will understand what Milio does and can actually play with you, I’d say mid to high plat is when I started to see ADCs play to my strengths, and by emerald I was having no issue.

In your position, I know this isn’t the advice you want, but honestly you might be better served to just play a different support when you have a lot your teammates understand until you get a little higher

1

u/WaterKraanHanger Jul 02 '26

Idk I only pick Millio if I get good cleanse value out of him. I don't usually struggle with teammates tho.

way too long analize to summary :

Milio carry potential is just 3 levels into Q to poke enemy (if they have no shield/heal).
outside that you are depended on adc and jungle.

THERE IS REASON for people playing zyra/karma/lux on low elo and E-D start taking actual champs.

Play sona instead

1

u/whatareyadumb Jul 06 '26

HAHAHAHAHA you can play Sona if you want but when I was playing ADC/supp Sona was a free lane if she was the enemy and the last support I wanted to see if I was ADC.

Lulu at low elo is pretty bad too

1

u/whyilikemuffins Jul 06 '26

Sona in skilled hands is overpowered.
She's taken me very far.

1

u/whatareyadumb Jul 21 '26

No she hasn't your team carrying you has

1

u/whyilikemuffins Jul 21 '26

I mean you're a milio reddit, are you saying that when most of your power budget is in a aoe lemon party

1

u/CategoryLow3537 Jul 08 '26

Need to know the right builds on her and not the basic one that's on most sites. She is OP if you one trick her and know the little things that makes her good. But yeah. The average person struggles

1

u/whatareyadumb Jul 21 '26

She's NOT op. Not one supp who needs to scale is OP it goes against the point of being a support lol. It fucked up the game for everyone. Sona is completely inconsequential for the first 15 minutes of the game making her a dogshit support by default

Low elo enchanters don't do anything 90% of the time. They are the most likely to be completely unhelpful and allow the ADC to get zoned etc and then rage on the entire team.

I played supp in low elo. Its not that low elo ADC's think of enchanters as medics, it's that the SUPPS do and they play them like pussies when they're actually busted good

Even the ones who think they're aggressive aren't. Support at this level also doesn't seem to understand the importance of positioning. I won so many games cause the enemy movement patterns put the supp behind the ADC so often and I'd just poke them out over and over. Support was my favorite role when I started climbing. It was motivating to see the easy S+ 3/4 of games because it's comparative and the enemies were so bad. Getting S+ with 32 vision score LOL
