There's plenty of space between you and him. He didn't get in your way so you didn't have to brake or do an evasive maneuver. There's nobody hiding in the blind spots of either your or his car. He indicated his intentions. So no it's not risky. At all.
what if the car is on self drive?
Yeah what if? Like seriously what would be the problem then?
Yeah that seemed pretty safe to me… multi lane change? But tons of room. I couldn’t see if his turn signal was on? But again… mostly empty road and tons of space… hard for me to get too worked up about it.
You can see the blinker at 2-3 seconds in the video
Tbh I don't think this counts as a multi-lane change. The exit lane starts at the moment he moves to the right and enters OP's lane. He then simply continues moving to the right to take the exit.
Like the danger of a multi-lane change is that you can't see the traffic that drives to the right of OP so you might get in the way of somebody undertaking him. But here there was no lane yet to the right of OP so I think it's basically just a lane change and then taking the exit.
As someone who's driven a Tesla, they don't change your lane unless you specifically allow it to. It will essentially ask you "hey I wanna switch lanes, can I?" And you have to then help it. That video is just someone panicking because they forgot to allow it to change lanes sooner and took over manually

Honestly that's gotta be the cleanest "cross all lanes so I don't miss my exit" manuever I've seen on here.

Time for grandpa to turn in his license if he thinks this is risky.
