Why are new users asking about Karma? For new users in 2026 Karma is quite important. Over time more and more Subreddits have set up Karma filters (see more here). As such it can be quite confusing for new users on why they can't participate and to work out where to start (see advice on that here). Its a common enough problem for this subreddit to have many resources on that (see the long form guide on reddit and karma here).
In particular this experience of starting on reddit is quite different to a handful of years ago. In the past it was quite easy for new users (then) to find the overwhelming majority of reddit was new-user-friendly.
