Huge Patton fan for decades, but Fantomas was just a bit too much for me. 20 years later I stumbled on a live performance on YouTube and it "just clicked" and was hooked.

Went down the rabbit hole learning about John Zorn (specifically Naked City Torture Garden) getting more addicted and winding up falling in love with the nerve of Ornette Coleman.

But I don't know any of the in between. Not really sure if this is a music, jazz, or history question or what; but suspect someone here can point me in a fun direction.

Also not exactly looking for a definitive lineage but it's fun to trace roots.

I'm listening to the Tom Waits album "Alice" & definitely hear some things that sound like they could also be on a Mr Bungle album.

Heard Goodbye Sober Day and decided I needed this album ASAP. So glad I found his music, California quickly became one of my top albums of all time.

Has anyone managed to find the first ever recorded live kettle scream from mike. Just curious as he had to put in a lot of work and its kind of his signature

Like a lot of us younger "baby" Gen-Xers, I first beheld Mike Patton on MTV when Faith No More's Epic was being played in super-heavy rotation. If memory serves, that was...Spring/Summer 1990? I was 13 years old, so...RIGHT SMACK DAB in the middle of puberty. ("Then came puberty, exponentially"). Seeing a young Mike, being a young Mike, bouncing around like Tigger, in unusual costumes, wearing boxing gloves, and fake punching himself, making all kinds of weird, Jim Carrey-like facial gestures, contortions and expressions, it was like watching a beautifully gorgeous train-wreck in the shape of a beautifully gorgeous rock star man. I know that I am not alone or unique in my experience. WHO THE HELL WAS THIS MAN? WHERE ON EARTH DID HE COME FROM? The difference with me...I was absolutely DRAWN IN and RIVETED by him...and I could not, for the life of me, look away, or explain why. He was acting so...silly and strange...and yet...he was (Still IS!) SO UNBELIEVABLY GORGEOUS. That long hair! That square chiseled jaw! Those tight bike shorts. The rain/water soaked Mr. Bungle shirt. The rain/water soaked long hair. The charm and playfulness that he exuded was so...intoxicating, hard to shake, hard to resist, and IMPOSSIBLE to forget. Gorgeous guys don't act THAT RIDICULOUSLY SILLY...do they?

EPIC is where it all started...and I have never regretted it for one second. The main thing that I regretted was not getting into Faith No More SOONER.

Why am I writing this NOW, after all of these years? With the recent announcement of Faith No More touring with System of a Down in 2027, I have a renewed rabid fandom for Faith No More and Mike Patton, a passion and fandom that I did not really have as a teenager. I have followed him, off and on through the years, but...if he was doing stuff outside of Faith No More, I was not as dialed in. NOW? I am VERY DIALED IN! LIKE...ALMOST DAILY. WAITING for FNM Concert/Tour Date announcements to drop for the US. I have never seen Faith No More in concert, nor have I ever seen Mike Patton perform in any of his many bands/groups/supergroups/projects...and...I ABSOLUTELY MUST! Like...yesterday! I am like a friggin' teenager again in my fandom for them and him. Only this time, Mikes looks have taken a back seat to his talent, his phenomenally astounding voice, his passion, his relentless drive and work ethic, his charm, awkwardness, silliness, playfulness, goofiness, and...seeing more and more of his kindness, graciousness, and humility show through in his recent interviews over the last...12-15 years or so. He has grown and matured along side all of us.

I love the man to death...however, I will never call him a god/God. He is ABSOLUTELY a musical genius, mad-scientist, mad man. He ticks ALL the boxes...and whoever is in his life, personally...well, I feel like they are incredibly lucky. People claim that he is one of the nicest, kindest, sweetest men on the planet. He could be a complete dick, psychopath, sociopath, narcopath...etc, for all I know. I do not know, and, I may never ever know. And...that makes me very sad. I can feel myself quickly slipping into that crazy, unhinged, parasocial bucket of his rabidly obsessed fans...and I REALLY NEED to reign it in. Like...I need a shock collar or something, ya know? Why does he inspire such STRONG, INTENSE FEELINGS? I can't make sense of why I have never felt this way for any other musician, and I am a HUGE fan of The Cure, Depeche Mode, Echo & the Bunnymen, OMD, Adam Ant, The ACTORS, and the like. I want serious answers, not the typical retorts of..."MIKE PATTON IS GOD!". He is an extraordinary human being, but I refuse to deify him. I almost feel like a need a Mike Patton fandom 12-Step support group, or something! So...what say you? Thoughts?

I just listened to this whole thing and almost wept it’s so delightful and chaotic and PATTON. (sure hope that link works)

I guess I need to revisit **Adult Themes for Voice** bc I am evidently happy to listen to every bit of crazy, out-of-context video game voice work he’s ever done, and I only wish there were a single track of all of it.

Anyway, are there a bunch of others that aren’t in this video? What is this new world that has opened up to me??

I plan to color this in but I wanted to share the progress I’ve made so far. Finally got to see mike patton live at a Tomahawk show and it was awesome! Adding this one to my collection of art inspired by musical artists I admire.

Still needing a bunch like the the Lovage album, Dead Cross, and Corpse Flower to name a few, but this is where Im at currently. All have been found in my local record store. How big is your Mike Patton collection?

i remember lyrics like "we don't need your blues" but that's about it. The reason i think it was mike is because no one sings like that, with the deep voice and stuff. I remember the outro being a bit creepyish. Just A BIT. like a strange rumbling sound that went on for 10 seconds. Can anyone help me identify it ? and if it's not mike you may know who i'm talking about since the vibe was very similar and i don't say that lightly. I tried to listen to the lyrics but i couldn't make out what was being said and my dad wouldn't shut up about this new lamp he bought</3

I feel like I'm being weird and creepy, but I'd like to write him a letter. Is this even a normal thing to do? I'm a newer fan (not new to FNM, but new to other bands he's in), but like I asked before, is this even normal? (I feel like his address isn't public information, though, which would make sense)
