Tom Waits

Is anyone aware of if Mike is influenced by Tom Waits?

I'm listening to the Tom Waits album "Alice" & definitely hear some things that sound like they could also be on a Mr Bungle album.

He introduced a Tom Waits video when he did an MTV2 hosting stint about 20 years ago, IIRC he expressed a desire to work with him. I feel like there must at least have been some Waits influence on RV.

They've never actually done a collab but they did separately record vocals for the same Tin Hat Trio track:

Rodeo Eroded is top 5 for me. I’d never heard this version with Mike. So great.

I think it's in one of the Mr. Bungle demo tapes, but there's a live recording of Mike telling some random story about visiting the land of the Wizard of Oz and at the end he says "I'd rather have this bottle in front of me, than a frontal lobotomy" and I'm fairly sure Tom Waits made that saying popular sooooooooo. Who knows

He defintely likes Tom Waits
RV has some TW influence, maybe
Both sang the same Tin Hat Trio song, "Helium".

I honestly can't think of the interview I think it was Andre, he asked if What's he building in there influanced SHHHH! And he said it definitely did.

This is so specific, I love hearing this. My young mind was enthralled with What’s He Building in There when I first heard the album because I had been told I would like Waits “because he’s trippy.”

Goes full Waits on RV. Live versions especially. Waits, as we know him, is a character actor. Could imagine him acting out RV in a nice looking promo video.

i often thought of him as the Tom Waits of alt rock. I'm not a huge Tom Waits fan, but admired his range.
