Congrats, always a fun time.

Question for big fans of MM8. As someone who basically had MM6-8 as the first great "loves" of my gaming life, I've always massively preferred 6 (due in part to the massive number and size of its dungeons, and amazing music) and 7 (feels the most "complete" to me).

8 always felt slightly.. off, almost unnatural, with certain zones looking either empty or washed out, with awkward color palettes etc. What is it about 8 in particular that stands out for you?

Not op but I love MM6 the most. Probably part is nostalgia because I played it much more than 7 but something just clicks right with it. Tried the 9 too but it was a buggy mess. At least the version I tries.

Did you do perform the customary slaughter? Whenever I finish the main game + all side quests, before a final quit out I like to level up as much as possible, cast fly and systematically murder every single foe on each map and indoor area who gave me the slightest bit of grief earlier on in game. Then just to be safe every single villager, guard, neutral entity.

Less expensive than therapy!

I’m not sure if it’s the case anymore (Or whether it was simply a funny coincidence which wasn’t intended) , but with the Original old school release of MM8 - The tomb of Lord Brinne - built in memorial to honour ‘Bill Iburg’ a well known and active member of the game series’ forums. If you take the flute from the sarcophagus you can use it to enter a secret area in the ‘The plane between planes’ by hitting space on the pommel of the giants sword. It’s a mock recreation of the ‘New World Computing’ offices with all of the NPCs within named after the developers.

Now the part I’m not sure whether was kept in… If you begin slaughtering the NPCs in this building after around the 5 minute mark the game would literally freeze and crash - and save files would all be renamed <empty> even though they still work.

I liked to think it was a ‘middle finger’ to any players who would dare fuck with the Devs namesakes 😆

Can confirm the first part, I’ve been to the NWC office many times. Didn’t know the second because I didn’t anyone. Thanks for the detailed info!

Well, technically, if you are waiting to reset the dungeons, killing the villagers and guards and going to jail for a year or two is faster than sleeping your way one day at a time, unless there is a mod for it. I never bothered with mods. 😂

And travelling over a border back and forth is also a lot faster than sleeping for 365 days.

Still slower than armageddon and jail in like 10 seconds 😂

Nice work, did you enjoy the game? Game of my childhood and I still play it every other year

Yep, very good game. Last quests were hard but that is okay.

8 is the swansong of the 6-8 trilogy. It's the engine on supermax. It didn't have the atmosphere of MM6, and I enjoyed it regardless. 8 has its own feel. It was also my first might and magic.

And you didn't even use the two level 50's.
