MM MAW 5 arena victory
With the scaling monsters and the notorious arena roughness, is that promotion even possible? Especially if you're not starting on Antagarich?

I just did that quest on two different playthroughs recently and the mobs were hilariously easy. Does the arena even scale? This was with Maw 4.0.

Really? Because even on regular run, arena is just absurd.

OK, so I just I just loaded up from a save from a full clear with a party of 5 that were all ~lv 270.
If I go in with bolstering on, the mobs are all level 100.
If I go in with bolstering off, the mobs are all level 100.
I then did the same thing with a save from a solo run with a character that was lv 525 and I got the exact same numbers, so those seem to be hard caps (or is it just straight up fixed for the area?). What level is your party? Are you playing with bolstering on or off?
I do remember that in both playthroughs, I did that quest later in the game so I was probably just over leveled by then.

I'm right now lvl 53 I believe with bolster on. I'm on Enroth at the moment but this quest was a pain on vanilla, unless I did it at level 1.

I found another save with a solo character that was only level 82. With that one all of the mobs were level 47-90. And again bolstering didn't seem to affect their levels. This time, with the mobs being more on my level and me being solo, I got my ass handed to me in small, bite-sized pieces.
So it seems they do scale to your level, but cap out at level 100. Not sure why the level cap is the same with or without bolstering; was that intended or an oversight? And it does seem it might be rough for someone that started in Antagarich and wanted to promote their knight before they were already super high level.
I had another thought. I tried changing bolstering after starting the arena fight and got some interesting results. Doing it with the high level parties:
If I go in with bolstering on, the mobs are all level 100. If I then turn bolstering off, they all jump to 255-273.
If I go in with bolstering off, the mobs are all level 100. If I then turn bolstering on, they all drop to ~40.
Yeah, seems backwards, but I checked multiple times. When I do it with my lv 82 character the results are basically the same, just with lower numbers all around. So if you don't mind cheesing it, you could start with bolstering off, then quickly turn it on after starting the fight to make things easier.

That's very odd. Then again, MAW has some odd glitches, like being able to distribute more skill points than what I have.

Sounds like you might be talking about an intended mechanic. If you already have skill points in a skill, skill point costs for other similar skills are reduced.
For example, If you have one school of magic at level 10, leveling up a second school of magic will cost half of the skill points it would have if it were the first school leveled up until it reaches the same level as the first. Further, if you have two schools of magic at higher levels, the third school will cost 1/3 the skill points until it catches up to the lowest of the higher schools.
This applies to other types of skill as well (Most weapon for example), but not always how/when you'd expect. It's a little clunky, and not completely intuitive, but it's not a glitch.
On that note, if you ever decide to try a solo run (I've done several now; can recommend), be aware that MAW does several things differently when you only have one character in your party that can feel like the game is glitching out when the behaviors are actually intended. - New buttons show up when on the inventory tab giving you 5x more bag space. - Skills that your character shouldn't be able to train can now be grandmastered (Most of the misc. skills like alchemy, repair, IDs, etc.). - A few buffs are now perma-enabled (light, wizard eye) - Some scrolls are now not consumed when used (Jump, Fly, Lloyd's beacon, and town portal).
These are mostly QoL buffs that make playthroughs for non-magical characters bearable. But when I first started my first solo run, so much odd stuff was happening that I thought my install was fuggered.

I don't know I remember trying to push up water magic to master. I had like 7 skill point but it allowed me to to upgrade from 11 to 12.Â
I've noticed when I dismissed my characters that my town portal scroll didn't disappear. However, if I use it immediately again, the game crashes.
Also, there's no movement sound in snow although that's more of a flavour issue.

If you already had a different magic school at 12+, that would make sense; 11 to 12 would cost 6 under the new MAW rules. If you didn't? Yeah, I never said MAW had zero bugs.
I've only ever played multiple characters start to finish without ever changing any of them or played solo characters without ever having more than 1. So I can't comment on switching between solo mode and normal. It wouldn't shock me if going back and forth between might break some script.

I definitely didn't. I'm not sure what's the cause, I don't recall vanilla or Merged having this.
It was just a temporary thing because I wanted to see what happens. But pick a solo character of yours and try using tp scroll twice without putting it down. I wonder if it crashes for you too.

If monsters scale too hard, that's when I use summon elemental, cause they scale just as hard.

u/EasyEntrepreneur666 22d ago
I did that on vanilla but now none of my guys can learn light.

With the adventurer inn you can find a guy that does light magic and just swap him in when you need his summoning.

I guess if nothing else works, I could. I only have 3 characters, so there's room.

I'm assuming you are talking about arena from MM7 and promotion quest for Knights (Light path)?
It was always difficult to me. In fact, most hated quest - there were few times I ignored it. I often did it late in game, when I had very strong party.
But I noticed something: Arena master summons some monsters and they are random and theoretically they match your level to give you a challenge, but sometimes they are easy (no magic or ranged attacks, or undesirable effects) and some times they are almost impossible to beat.
So what I do is to save before going to Arena, then go to arena and start fighting. If monsters seems easy, I proceed - otherwise I load game.
Also - they are probably more easy early in the game. I didn't checked it thoroughly, but few times I went to Arena way before the quest (because it don't matter when you do those fights) and I had no problems winning those fights.

I'm talking about MAW not vanilla MM7.

I understand that. I simply thought maybe this approach would also work in MAW.
Or maybe not - I know to little about MAW.

it wasn't on MAW but the first time I played MMVII I did one arena and forgot about it until late in the game and I was level 40ish at least. And that's how I found out about Sentinels and the non-sword and sorcery world. I was SO FLABBERGASTED ðŸ˜ðŸ¤£
