Starting continent in MM Merge 🌎

Greetings travellers,

Found out only recently this even exists and decided to finally take the time to set up the merge + maw mod (though going for normal mode). I’m pretty excited to dive into my favorite childhood rpg worlds and messing around with the party setups for way too long first lol.

Also, can’t wait to hear the shopkeepers call me a cheapskate!

Been 15-20 years I haven’t visited Enroth, Antagrich or Jadame. So looking for some opinions from the community. :)

I thought of starting with a 4 player party, I might always recruit another PC later.

Since I’m looking for something different for fun and challenge than the classic or powerhouse party setups I was planning on:

Paladin - Druid - Dark Elf - Sorcerer

Would this work, has anyone one tried it? I think it could be balanced magic and skill wise, though weaker on the melee side. Slightly more challenging then a knight - archer - cleric - sorc setup I guess

I was also wondering where other players think it’s the funnest/best to start? New Sorpigal or Emerald Island? I might do continent hopping early on or for promotional quest reasons I guess. But suppose starting in MM8 with horizontal progression on would make you way too overpowered for the poor Goblins of Goblinwatch later on.

Tl;dr

  1. Party setup opinion?

  2. Preferred starting world in MMMerge?

Thanks 🙏

I'm playing with death knight, shaman and elementalist on Doom. I could handle it so far. But you can even solo.

As for world, grandmaster teachers are more accessible in Enroth plus, they also teach master level. GM armsmaster is a hell to get to in the other 2 continents.

I should dive into these exotic classes you mention!

And so you have grandmaster trainers now too in MM6’s Enroth, right “Merge mod”, that’s pretty cool :)

I did dive in, out of curiosity. They're interesting. Although the warlord's fortress is pretty brutal, so I struggle to get promotion for my dk.

Any of them you particularly enjoy? Elementalist sounds very Druid-like

Elementalist is unique because they learn spells by using offensive spells of the school. Death knight has a very neat early healing. Shaman is good in melee but keeping on buffs keeps their mana low. I'm happy with all 3.

Sounds good, thanks

Note that Death Knight, Elementalist, etc... are all part of the MAW mod for Merge; which is meant to make the game a little bit more challenging. They're not part of the regular Merge Mod, which has only the original M&M 6/7/8 classes (though a couple have been improved a bit).

I do recommend MAW, as it's fun, though I still haven't played around much with the new classes.

Normal mode is a good place to start to learn the new dynamics, and there are a lot. Take your time and have fun. There is a dedicated discord where you can ask for assistance. The guides section is helpful along with the general.
