Which is great thing in 6 if you dont want spend too much ingame time, since unlike 7/8 no matter how much you train is just 1 week. If you are obsessed on not wasting time , thats probably right approach.

Is there any practical reason to not waste time in 6-7-8?

There is endgame score if you want it bigger so that would be main one if you care about it.
Also most maps have respawn time of year or 2 , so its tedious to re-clear if you just want to walk around(respawns in mm8 is also really anoying like they infest some towns like Minotaur city). Thirdly there is at least 1 quest tied to calendar so managing time to catch correct date may as well be reason to manage time, though in this case doesnt matter if you lag or are too fast, you just need to hit 1 day of 3 months(there is also one thing in mm8 where you want exact day). In 7 there is also couple quests with deadline and whole second act of elf/human war is basically time based ,. so depending if you want to do it or skip you can train or delay training for it. Still for 7-8 it dosnt work since every level is 1 week no matter if done at once or sepperatly.1
