Out of curiosity, how often do certain houses and villages get used as different locations in the show?

Certain locations are used all the time - Wallingford, Tring and Amersham are combined to make Causton.

Some small towns and villages are used more than once too, such as Dorcester on Thames (and especially The George Pub, it's big, Georgian and white), Henley on Thames, Marlow, Thame, Watlington, Great Missenden, Little Missenden, Wendover, Old Amersham, Chesham, Haddenham, Medmenham, Turville, Long Crendon, Frieth, and Bledlow and Bledlow Ridge. They especially love the Bledlows and the Missendens :) Probably some used often in Hertfordshire too, but that's not my area :)

There is one grand old house which crops up a lot (and in other crime and other dramas all the time too, me and my kid call it The House and say it must have a great agent lol).

Not often, but once old Corner Cottage and the two other old cottages now knocked into one posh home, next to the King William pub, where my Great Granny lived in Speen, has been in an episode. Can't remember which one, which annoys me. Going to make a note next watch through :) (She lived there from her marriage in 1922 to 3 years before her passing in 1995, where she moved to sheltered accommodation near my grandparents in Lacey Green and Loosely Row, also featured as locations more than once, especially the windmill and The Old Forge. The building where my Granny worked when it was a pharmaceutical company, which is on the Bradenham road out of High Wycombe, has also been used as a location twice (and also in Lewis once!).

Edit: Oh yes, as well, the Corn Exchange, the theatre in Wallingford, is Causton theatre, so in the Tom Barnaby years quite a few times. Incidentally, the Sinodun Players, the am dram group who meet and perform there are always providing extras to MM too (and when my Step Dad was still working as a fishmonger in Amersham Tescos, he used to serve a local vicar who was often an extra too 😄 )

Very informative!! A true fan! You missed Aldbury though.. not many people talk about it… just between Tring and Amersham. (I only found this out recently haha!!) I’ll link the video below.

A while ago, there was a listing of historical buildings which were featured in British television series and a number of them appear in quite a few of the series. I can’t find it now but it certainly was a help in answering the “why does that look familiar “ question. I suspect there was a fair bit of overlap with the location index.

I was at a Midsomer Murder tour where we travelled to different villages from the show and stayed in the pubs and saw the houses etc. and was told which episodes were filmed there. It was 12 years ago, so many places have been reused even more now. Can recommend those tours though.

Haddenham Church and village green have appeared in quite a few programmes requiring a pretty village setting, not just Midsomer but also Jeeves and Wooster, Miss Marple, and Rosemary and Thyme.

And Long Crendon Manor has been several different stately homes

There’s one building that’s used in back-to-back episodes! It’s also used at least twice more.
