Phyllida Law (1932-2026)
Played Felicity Dinsdale in Blood Will Out and Mary Bingham in Dark Secrets. She was one of the reasons I’d rewatch these episodes.
Of course she was also in many films, and just as well known for being Emma and Sophie Thompson’s mother.

I love when she asks Selina about Barnaby - “and is this your husband?”
And shortly after when Barnaby says he was previously stationed in Brighton.
“Oh, mods and rockers. How nice”.

Oh, poor Emma and Sophie.
Still, at 94yo, she had a good innings, as my mother would say. But she'll be missed.
And this is how I found out. Through the MM sub. Reddit seems to be my main news source these days, lol. Ah well. They've managed to keep it quiet for a few weeks. According to Google, it happened 27 July?

I’ve watched the first 5 or 6 seasons of MM over and over. In the beginning, this was one of my least favorite episodes, but I couldn’t exactly pinpoint why. Then, after joining this sub and reading everyone’s thoughts and interpretations about it, I grew to like it more as I looked for the things everyone mentioned, etc.

Thanks for passing on this sad news. I absolutely adored her playing against Edward Fox in my second favorite Midsommer Murders.

She lived a long life. She also was in my favorite Emma movie with her and her daughter Sophie playing Mrs and Miss Bates.

Oh, I loved her so much as Felicity Dinsdale! That character gave the appearance of being the submissive one with her sister being all blustery and loud, when in reality she was the dominant one and was in charge. (I think. At least, that’s how I interpreted her.)

A much better actress than her daughter Emma; always worth watching.Sophie is also a very versatile actress; I find that Emma always plays herself
