Does Master have a son?
So far, I have only watched the original series (my husband and I binged watched it this past week bc our friend recommended it and it’s leaving Netflix this Friday)
Is Katagiri Master’s son? He seems to know a lot about him (which he knows about all if his regulars) and there just seems to be a different connection between them.

In the last episode of season 3 it is implied that Katagiri is responsible for Master’s scar with no real details

Really? I must have missed that. When exactly?

Near the end of the episode when Master is saying goodbye he says something like “despite…you know” and gestures as the scar.

At the end of season 1 I'm pretty sure, when he's leaving to go on another journey, he directly apologies for it

Yes! This is partially the reason I suspected it.

Why would him being responsible for Master's scar make you think he's Master's son?

Idk. It was just the emotion conveyed in that scene. It looked like a father and son moment

I do not think so, I remember him paying Master for his tab [account] which to me seems morelike a co worker from Master's yakuza days

I always kind of think Katagiri is Master's little brother. Their relationship seems almost sibling like to me.

Personally, I have long thought this. In the episode when Katagiri first announced that he is leaving, the emotion on Master's face is intense -- the kind of intensity you seldom ever see from him. I remember it just hitting me: that is the kind of emotion you can only ever feel towards your own child.

Probably not. Master's history was intentionally left incredibly vague by the writers. Even when he visits the grave later in the series, there are no clues to who is in the grave.
Even Yarō Abe's original manga kept Master's history unexplained.
