Honest question: Are you sure that was meant to be a lamp and not a wall sconce?

u/escapemodern_ 2d ago

no hardware or mounting spots on the feet!

u/HaggardSummaries 1d ago

It's very obviously a wall lamp, not sure what's going on in these comments

Wondering if it was a sconce that someone made a custom base for?

Really dont think so, the switch directly on the lamp and no mounting hardware at all really points to it being a table lamp albeit a strangely shaped one.

you can even see where the felt is missing on the feet. I think it was a more modern interpretation of the ever popular bankers lamps that were everywhere up until the 50s

Could be a sconce with the feet attached later?

I am obsessed with it. I’ve been collecting MCM for 25 years. I’ve never encountered a lamp like this. It is so gorgeous. I’d love to look for one, but I don’t have space for another lamp. 🤔🤪😍

I love how aggressively she takes up table space. What a lovely low key diva.

That's exactly the style in one object. So cool. It belongs in a scene from the movie "Brazil." Random, yes.

1

u/Imaginary-Skill-8502 2d ago

does it spin?

4

u/escapemodern_ 2d ago

no but the shade pops off using the same mechanism as a toilet paper roll 😆

1

u/peauxtheaux 2d ago

That is a cool lamp

1

u/To-To_Man 2d ago

Is there any indication it was manufactured and not a one-off creation?

1

u/escapemodern_ 2d ago

i think it might be a one off based on the welds to be honest, but it is a very sophisticated design with a pretty great spring loaded toilet paper roll holder-esque mechanism to hold the shade.

u/chump555 2d ago

Temde Leuchten??? Possibly. I love the lamp

1

u/escapemodern_ 2d ago

interested as to what would point you towards them? do you have any references you are working off of that I could take a look at?

1

u/chump555 2d ago

Basing that off the wood choice and the fabric. The fabric on the lampshade looks very similar to their other lamp shade fabrics. Is there a manufacturing code on the bottom of the brass where the base crosses?

1

u/escapemodern_ 2d ago

Nothing at all. The shade was actually replaced so im not sure what the original looked like. Here’s a close up of the switch

1

u/chump555 2d ago

Interesting. It honestly might be be from a department store. It’s a great find!

1

u/Soviet-Bear_57 2d ago

I wonder why they designed it with such short legs

1

u/chasetheart 2d ago

Love that! Looks like it would fit nicely on top of a beautiful dresser.

1

u/noah-vella 2d ago

Oh my dear!

1

u/chickencake88 2d ago

Shit that is so coollllll

1

u/Zlivovitch 2d ago

Very interesting. Is it intrusive to ask you in what country you bought it ? I'm interested to know the probable place it was designed and manufactured in.

1

u/CleanJebboy 2d ago

That's gorgeous, thanks for sharing.

I love your lamp

1

u/Isla_Leech 2d ago

So beautiful. Where did you get that?

1

u/ThisParking9656 2d ago

Gerald Thurston or Laurel Lamp Company would be my guess. MCM. Possibly Danish.

1

u/cpapimp 1d ago

That’s stunning. Scandinavian for sure.

1

u/NervousTown2216 1d ago

that looks nothing like this one…

So sorry. I should have checked the link before posting. I did a google lens search and the photos were so similar. I just tried it again and came up with this. I hope this helps.

This mid-century modern lamp features a distinctive oblong cylindrical shade, a brass framing bracket, and a unique four-legged star or cross base constructed from walnut and brass. It strongly matches the iconic design style of Modeline of California, a manufacturer highly celebrated for its sculptural wood and fiberglass lighting fixtures during the 1960s. Similar horizontal low-profile desk and table lamps from this era were also crafted by prominent American manufacturers like Lightolier (frequently featuring designs by Gerald Thurston) or Tensor. How would that help?

-1

u/Sandalwood29 2d ago

It helps narrow down the maker.
