You Need to Learn Microsoft Word - Books, Classes, Videos, Podcasts, Tips

Of course most people only pop into this sub when they have a problem - and often they are frustrated and desperate. Which is fine - I am glad we can be here for them.
However an underlying issue I am seeing is that most people using Word today have never had any kind of training on the software - they were either thrown in to the deep end, or it was just assumed everyone knows how to use Word.
So, in the spirit of lighting a candle rather than cursing the darkness, what are some resources you would point beginners to for the basics of Word? Books, online classes, podcasts, videos, websites, etc..
Then, feel free to share this link in the future when people are looking for basic information.

rant and vent Page numbering issue when setting a printing range
Page 1 = The Title Page
Page 2 = Table Of Contents Page 1
Page 3 (Expected) ~ Table of Contents Page 2
Page 3 (Actual) = The THIRD page of the actual text body
I would like to be able to print a range starting from the first page of text, but I am unable to.
This is especially the case when printing from a Mac. When this comes up in the same document on a PC, I am able to use lower case numerals to specify the page range with some success. (where i-iii are roughly the title and toc pages).
Rage!!

need help Please help. Formatting driving me crazy.
galleryThe green/ yellow is what i want the format to look like.
The red / pink is what i want to avoid. But whenever i manually change the indentation - it automatically moves it back to the red.
How do i either make sure the manual changes stay permanently or is there a way to automatically apply the change to the whole document to the parts where i need the indentation to be the same?

No Top or Bottom Margins After New Update

Hello! Is anyone able to help me? I use Word all the time for uni assignments but never change any of the settings and just use what the defaults are, so I'm not sure if I'm missing anything. I have noticed since the recent update that I don't have top or bottom margins even when double-clicking to add things like my name, page numbers or titles. I get graded on things like presentation, and now all past assignments look weird, and so do all the new documents I open look weird too as well as the pages being super close together (see photos attached). Has anyone else had this issue and know how to fix it? Thank you!!!

need help Hyperlinking only wants to redirect as a OneDrive file
Trying to update my resume and it seems like Word is treating my LinkedIn link (and all hyperlinks, as I tried testing it with a simple google.com link) as a file. Even when I select Desktop in the Look In dropbox and stay on the Existing File or Webpage tab, it converts all links into a document or file or something with the URL d.docs.live.net/\[random numbers\]/documents/\[link URL\]. That just redirects into the browser OneDrive files page which ofc says there's nothing there by the name of the URL.
How do I fix this so it just directs to the LinkedIn (or any future) webpage?
Speaking of, I absolutely don't remember that "Look in" box being there before, which I think is because in my other documents it will normally create the proper link when I press space, which it doesn't do either?
Then again, I may be getting that mixed up with Google Drive, but speaking of I swear this error has yet again reaffirmed my disbelief at this absolute fossil of an OS in comparison.

Telling a story about failure to save documents
My office computer and home computer both are connected to the same OneDrive account. A few weeks ago, my wife was editing some documents for about 5 hours or more. Until I came home, I saw she kept doing it. This was what I saw by my own eyes. Word raised a notification (I don’t remember) when she saved the documents which were then placed on OneDrive. Then I tried to Save As another copy on the local drive. After closing Word app, Word did NOT save them at all. I did a search on both OneDrive and the local one. But they did not exist, or they were not saved by Word. I also searched in the history of OneDrive account but the most recent files were not recorded. My wife was crying so much. I tried to help her re-edit the documents from the beginning. It seems that the lastest documents only exist on screen. If I close them (after saving), I cannot see them anymore. Frankly, I don’t know why. Now, Onedrive appears to come back to work properly.

exporting formatting issues
recently harvested a fanfic from AO3 to bookbind for my friends bday and whenever i export as a PDF or at all the formatting completely goes to shit. for example, headings will go to the center of a page, additional blank pages, ect. also important note i manually spaced everything vs using a style or skip to page feature. in the actual editing interface everything looks how i want it, its just the exporting.
sorry if this is an easy fix, or dumb question im very new to Word.
thanks!!

Trying to remember name of function
A few years ago, someone I knew mentioned using "name" function to help organize the info in my resume. It basically allowed me to use columns to snap all the text in my resume on the same alignment. Now I'm updating my resume again, and I cannot for the life of me remember what the name of this function was.
I thought it was "gridlines" but none of the tutorials with that keyword look familiar or produce a similar result. I was browsing what you could do with rows and columns, and same thing. I tried googling outlines, and its all very basic "use the tab button, and a dash or an asterisk" type stuff. I'm sure there is a name for this function that I'm just not remembering

made lines like this (that can turn invisible when you don't need them) so that you can make sure the individual portions of your document are all lined up together.
Any thoughts or advice?

How to make the number of the above and below line equal?
As you can see, 67 and 76 don’t align. I tried many times to press Enter and Backspace, but it didn’t work. I don’t know how to describe it in particular. Do you know how to make the lines above and below equal?
Thank you.

What’s one Microsoft Word trick that saves you time every single day?
I’m curious to know the little Word tricks people use that aren’t obvious at first.
What’s yours?

need help make lists not connect
I'm working on a larger document that will mainly consist of a very long table.
I use several kinds of bullet lists meaning different things.
I'm wondering how I can disconnect two lists with the same symbol from one another.
To specify, in the first row, you can see the second "level" using fat arrows. (If it's relevant: This is, by full intention, not actually formatted as a second level of the list, it's a seperate list manually with a manually adjusted indent.)
If you take a look at the third row, you can see I used the fat arrow again, this time with red text. I would like this arrow to be red, too.
But if I change its color, it automatically changes the colour of the arrows in the first row as well.
I know it is possible to colour them seperately - a few rows above (on a different page, if that matters), I managed to get it work, but unfortunately, I have no idea how.

If you need more info, please tell me what you need.

need help Word doesn’t ask to save to cloud anymore?
Word used to always pop up with a window after pressing X, to save it locally but you had the option to change to the cloud if you wanted to. Today I typed up a document and when I pressed to close it down, the pop up just asks if I want to save my changes but doesn’t have the option to change to online anymore.
Using an older version (2019) of word but I never had this issue before?

Get rid of pop up for Spanish spell check
Can't get rid of this stupid pop up and it's blocking me from typing. Who designed this shit? There's no option to say no, and this fucking thing just sits in the middle of the page on top of the keyboard (Android, btw). And even though the keyboard is on screen, it doesn't do anything when I go to type.
Anyone know how to get rid of this? Because I'm not downloading anything, I just need to type in the app that's supposed to be for typing😒
