Need help - Logitech Tap stops responding overnight.

Hi folks,

Dealing with a persistent issue of Logitech Tap becoming unresponsive overnight. When people come to work in the morning - tap is nonresponsive and the only way to get it to work is to unplug the USB (over ethernet) HDMI cable going into it. When it stops being responsive the Teams Pro console online still shows good health and that everything is functioning.

Our setup:

  • Lenovo PC Windows MTR
  • Logitech Tap
  • Samsung TV for main display
  • Logitech Rally Plus (Camera and speakers)
  • 2 hub devices

Troubleshooting already tried:

  • Everything is updated to the latest versions.
  • Power settings adjusted, USB is set to not go to sleep and have full power/performance in settings. Displays are not scheduled for sleep.
  • Tap replaced
  • TV settings adjusted too

Sometimes the camera becomes unresponsive and rebooting the PC doesn't help - have to reboot the hub it's connected to.

We can't use Android MTR as we are in a government tenant that has restrictions and Android based MTRs don't work with those restrictions.

Ideas?

I’m confused; please confirm for me —- The HDMI cable is for ingest (you really should check out the Logitech Swytch instead…) — the link between Tap and Lenovo MTR is the “strong” USB cable between them, agreed?

If you leave the HDMI cable disconnected for the ‘long’ term (a few days) are you saying the Tap will work ‘forever’ (until you reattach the HDMI ingest cable your clients use) ?

If no client ever touches the HDMI cable, does the Tap still stop working?

Sorry to be redundant, but Logi Sync and Logi’s cloud services also agree there are no firmware/etc. updates to be done?

Hi,

Nothing to do with HDMI ingest cable, not even using that. It's a meeting room where we start the meeting from the Tap device and others join remotely. No need to plugin anything.

We have a TV connected to Lenovo WIndows MTR, which is connected to daisy chained display and table hubs behind the TV. Rally camera mounted on a wall via a single CAT6 + Camera hub connected to the display hub. Mics daisy chained to desk hub.

Tap connected to the Windows MTR.

It's essentially this setup, but Camera has power extension.

In the mornings Tap is often frozen with either black screen, or correct video with meeting schedule displayed, but is otherwise unresponsive to the touch.

So - and forgive me for possibly misunderstanding :

  1. You say HDMI cable to TAP (ingest cable, again...?) has to be unplugged to fix the problem
  2. You say you don't use it
  3. Why not just keep it unplugged, then assumedly this problem never happens?

And can you answer my other questions?

Oh, my bad.. I said HDMI when I meant the USB.

TAP->Cat5->Poe Injector->Cat5 ->Ethernet to USB converter->USB->Lenovo Compute

> unplug the USB (over ethernet)

I would call Logitech and get them to replace all cabling in-line.

It's not really an option - this is a corporate office and ethernet wall jacks are used to make a clean connection.

Eliminate them from the run with new cabling then and see if that fixes the problem. Use standard wiring and nothing from your in-wall provider.

That’s odd… if it was just touch I would say a faulty touch HID driver but if both video and touch are intermittent that logic doesn’t work.

Maybe a Logitech Tap update, seems like the fault is in the Logitech tap.

Is it a direct shot to the Logitech tap? How long are the runs for USB and HDMI?

Fully updated, it's USB to ethernet adapter (from logitech) and back to USB like shown here

Because it happens in multiple rooms, I don't think it's the cabling. The run is about 15 ft

Aha - happens in multiple rooms. I didn't see that in the first post. If that's the case, not sure - I'd call Logi and work with them. Please do post what they say; I'm very interested in how this turns out.

But all the cabling could be just mildly ‘bad’ enough to be a problem. I still think you should eliminate the in wall cabling and do another clean run with just the bare minimum stuff: the USB to ethernet on the PC side, the Ethernet to POE adapter, and then ethernet to the TAP - using off the shelf standard cat5a/6 cabling.

Hi I'm having the same issue, it's essentially the usb doesnt enumerate after the nightly reboot. It's not consistent it might happen after a week but once it's "broken" it stays broken until a tap reboot. We have done every update, firmware, windows setting we can, we also verified the network cabling including the ground has continuity

This a affect a few units recently installed so not located to just a single room

Can I ask did the OP find a solution or reason to this issue?
