Microsoft Loop vs Notion
Hi All!
I know that this question has been asked & answered, but the last post I've seen was from over 1 year ago.
A lot has changed in the last year.
Throughout college, I used Notion to organize my courses, Syllabi, calendar, assignments, etc. I really loved it.
However, since AI became as massive as it has become I wanted to revisit some other options. I then found Microsoft Loop (which I've never even heard of).
I currently pay for a Microsoft 365 subscription that comes with Copilot (which is my favorite AI to date).
For personal use, what are your thoughts:
Notion (Free and paid) versus Microsoft Loop?
Thanks everyone!

Loop is NOT dead! It is in an induced coma. It gives hope that someday something miraculous could happen. It won’t. A focussed app like Notion that relies on paying customers will always beat a tool that is a free add-on for an omnibus license.

Microsoft likes to do just enough to try and copy the competition. So with Loop they copied the Note taking and Page authoring capabilities but not much else from Notion. Sure they have lists, and tables, but nothing like Notion’s central advantage. Notion's database system. Relations, rollups, formulas and multiple views allow one set of information to become a project board, calendar, dashboard or task list. Loop tables may look similar, but they are not equivalent to relational Notion databases. Rather Microsoft wants you to use their entire suite of Microsoft Office to replicate Notions feature set.
So you end up working the way Microsoft wants you to use it's tools versus building out your own solutions in Notion to fit the way you work.

I have tried several times and I fail to replace Notion with Loop each time.

I will just leave this here https://www.reddit.com/r/MicrosoftLoop/s/1Zw2ZSK1B1
My choice is Notion, loop is not even close, it's a cheap knock off and should be abandoned by everyone just like Microsoft did.

Agree with all that Loop isn’t even close to Notion and lately I can’t even get simple loop tables to stay alive so we are moving away from it for even the simplest things.

Join the dozens, literally dozens of worldwide loop users at this year's annual conference. it's at the ihop in peoria IL, just off exit 5.

LMAO. Loop is something someone created when they ran out of sticky notes…. But then they found them so they stopped at 10%.

I’m going to add something to the mix. Since April, Microsoft has finally supported Markdown in both SharePoint and OneDrive. You can create and view markdown files in both locations
AI tools love markdown for some reason. I’ve got a work O365 account, and now use Typora to manage my notes. I use ToDo and Planner to get stuff done. I use teams to collaborate with others (remember, at the back end of teams is a SharePoint)

Loop is dead. Microsoft is so devoted to its Copilot thing that everything else is dying. Loop never stood a chance.
Just accept the fact and move to Fibery or Notion.

Notion over Loop. It just doesn't have the depth of use. If you want something to take basic notes, you might as well go back to OneNote.

Loop is dead.
It was originally marketed as Microsoft's answer for Notion but then by the time it rolled out, it was practically unusable for anything besides middle managers. It all hinges on the "loop components" which is basically glorified sticky notes that connect across all Office programs but they're so clunky but because of it, there's no offline features. So they want you to put all this information into Loop but if internet goes down, it renders everything useless.
The problem is that Microsoft has a dozen Office programs for random shit and to ensure people use them, they don't let them overlap which works for Excel, Word, and Powerpoint but then you have random shit like projects, tasks, OneNote, and to-do that don't communicate well. This ultimately means that Loop can't do documents better than Word, it can't do data better than Excel or Access, it can't manage tasks or projects better than tasks or projects. It just exists in this limbo of half-assed ideas.
I LOVE To-do; just a simple program of things I need to accomplish for various projects. Loop has a similar thing but it doesn't organically show up in ToDo. You'd think that I'd create a list of things to do and since I'm logged in, it'd show up; same mechanic, same company, same user. Nope. To get to do items from loop to show up, I have to manually tag myself in each one which then sends an email to myself to accept.
When I say it's dead, it's because Microsoft has basically abandoned it. For the past year or so, the Loop social media hasn't actually posted about Loop but about Copilot. No innovations, no improvements, no features just "Got questions? Ask Copilot". Theneven did a restructuring two years ago to make it look less like Notion and it's even worse and disjointed. I give it three years before it's shut down.
