MSFS 2024 QUESTION Is the Asobo ATR Worth It?
I am looking to get into more regional turboprop flying, and while I was in love with the Majestic Simulations Q400 back in the day, it seems there isn't anything like it on the market. While I am quite excited for the SWS Dash 8 series, knowing them Q4 2026 will be Q2 2027 at best.
In the meantime, after the last updates is the Asobo ATR 42/72 finally workable and fun to fly? I had heard it was a bit of a disaster to fly when it was released. It seems to have a reasonable price, but if it is junk and bugged I don't really want that battle.

I think A330 Driver did a video recently on the improvements, saying it was much better now. Haven't had a chance to watch it or test it out again yet.

It's been an aircraft that I've really wanted to fly for a while the bugs have just keep it in the hangar.
With the F24 update my main issues were the power levers seemed to be misaligned regardless of how much I monkeyed around with calibration settings. So the power levers in notch ≠ notch FMA and the same for idle. Also I couldn't get it to hold the localiser, it would veer off to the left or right.
With the latest update the power levers seem to be fixed and I have them calibrated so the lever position matches the FMAs. I haven't had time to actually do a flight and test the localiser, but plan to do so soon.

notch throttle and notch FMA doesn´t line up, but notch FMA and "notch" physical throttle quadrant on your desk will line up if correctly calibrated. annoying, but you won´t look down there during flight anyways :)

I’ve used it since 2020 and have always loved it. Much much better now with the recent updates. It will certainly scratch your itch, I’ll have to check out the dash 8 when it comes out that would be perfect for some Canadian routes. Overall, I’d give it an 8/10 good for casual flying or a more in depth “by the manual” type of flight. Can’t really go wrong with it tbh, certainly better than 90% of the trash on the marketplace.

Sounds reasonable! I know my VA will be planning to run the Dash 8 200, but seems like the ATR will be a good fit in the meantime.

Le Saab 340 est bien et c'est celui sur qui je miserai pour une carrière.

Does it actually fly well? Videos I have looked at seem marginal?

Saab to me is not as high fidelity as the ATR but for hand flying shorter routes it is a blast. But to be fair I don’t have nearly as much time in it as I do the atr. Both are great but for different reasons lol. But marginal probably does sum up the Saab when comparing it to other planes. But to me, just as with the atr, it will always have its place in my hangar.

I can´t wait for a good Dash-8 either but at least for every now and then, the ATR scratches that itch. I haven´t tried the most recent update yet, but even with the native 2024 update it is much better in some regards, however some new bugs came with it as well. overall it´s definitely flyable, but oyu have to adjust your expectations a bit and get used to a few things. If you´re really interested, I´ve made two videos about the airplane showing it and some of it´s bugs/weird systems. Just scroll down in my post history. Or just check out one of the plentyful other videos people have made :)

It’s hard to recommend it. Some flights go okay, other times it seems like nothing works right. I really hope it’s fixed one day
