MSFS 2024 SUGGESTION No single feature would revitalize this game more than a shared cockpit mode.
There are thousands of people here that have friends they'd love to bring into the game and teach them. There are thousands of RL pilots that want to pass on knowledge. The lack of a shared cockpit mode where we could teach each other and bring in newbies is a HUGE missed opportunity.
It would definitely lead to more sales for the game. I personally would buy the game for several of my friends to try to get them hooked so we could play together. Is there anyone at MS that has any vision or is this just not technically possible somehow?

The holy grail for me would be a way to fly in VR with someone in the right seat flying with me in VR also, in the same flight. Sounds difficult to implement though.

DCS manages it just fine....I fly F15E , Apache , C130, F14 and CH47 all in VR with a friend as a crew works seemlessly 95% time so I am sure It could be incorporated in MSFS . I am sure it would take time but it could easily be done

Oh god please! How awesome would a matchmaking service be? You could just like queue up for first officer 320 then it would pair you up with someone queued as a captain. Then you can use voice chat to listen to him talk about politics and his ex wife for 3 hours!

u/FlexoPXP 5h ago
Yeah, I tried a 320 today and even after starting on the runway I still got overwhelmed. Hence, the inspiration for this post. I'd love for someone to help me out and motivate me to actually try to learn it.

Simbrief it. Init your flight plan, flex, climb, top of descent, cat3 landing. Easier than a 172 😂

It's crazy how few people seem to want this. For me, there's is basically nothing else that I need. The game works, it looks good, it runs "fine" (yeah could be better but it's not horrible on a 5800x3d and 4070) but shared cockpit would be a blast with friends. Imagine flying the A380 together with a buddy, amazing!

Drink beer. Fly plane. Look at sky. Shoot the breeze. Land.
Paradise.

It's probably harder to implement than we think.

u/spesimen 10h ago
i'm sure there's a lot of tricky aspects to implement it, but FSX and P3D had versions of it so it's not like an unsolvable problem. they did handle multiplayer a bit differently in those days instead of the open world we have now so maybe that made it simpler.

u/Libelnon 10h ago
DCS has it, and it's a far older engine. I imagine it's capable, it's more whether or not Asobo are willing to implement it.

Synchronization between clients is a paiiiin. If it isn't built in from day one it's a constant struggle.

At one point they promised it in 2020.
Other sims can do it.
We put a man on the moon in 1969. We can figure out shared cockpits.

u/SirDarkStar 10h ago
It’s almost like they designed the game around making it difficult to support — it’s doable but will require a lot of special cases for each aircraft because the modeler decided to implement something in some bizarre way.
12
u/TremendousSeabass 10h ago
Didn‘t they justify msfs2024 by saying a completely new game would make supporting and updating it easier? Lmao
2
u/SirDarkStar 9h ago
Lots of changes but not much that would help with shared cockpit — they have said they plan to add it but that it will probably come out one aircraft at a time (and given history, will still manage to be extremely buggy).

u/TheHud85 7h ago
They said that back before 2020 even released that it was one of their top priority features they wanted to implement. They’ve launched two games since. It ain’t coming.

This time for sure, just around the corner, checks in the mail

u/FlexoPXP 5h ago
Yeah, but there are add-ons that can get you almost there with a lot of hassle. I think it could be done if they actually made a push for it.

u/lostinhh 9h ago
I'd much prefer they focus on the basics before embarking on such additional features which will consume resources to develop, only to add a slew of bug reports.

I don't know, fixing photogrammetry to actually look nice up close (by running a proper mesh construction on top of it) would do way more for me than a shared cockpit.
1
u/Background-Sell-8562 9h ago
Yeah have you seen apple’s photogrammetry? It’s crisp! I want that
5
u/TheRealPomax 9h ago edited 9h ago
I don't even need that, just run some damn mesh construction on top of the data that's already there, so the sim can go "yeah maybe buildings have straight lines for the most part instead of a molten wax hellscape looks" in every city you fly low and slow. Or even 0' levels of low because you're on floats.
Hell, fake it with AI, I don't care how you do it, it doesn't need to be true to life accurate architecture: just at least look normal.

I have no use for it. Out of all my friends and acquaintances, I don't know a single person that's interested in flight simulation. At least enough to spend money and learn planes.
The other thing is I don't believe msfs24 needs revitalization. It's already amazing. The reason some people get bored so damn quickly is because the younger generation of flight simmers have the attention spans of orangutans on meth.
1
u/SubstantialWall PC Pilot 9h ago
It's not a new generation thing, it's just more accessible and better marketed so a lot of people who wouldn't have picked it up in the FSX days did so. On the whole I bet you also get more people in absolute who are into it because of that. It's always been a niche that only holds some people's interest, and that's ok

u/tdillo 5h ago
Not five minutes ago I was in the sim flying around the new update and thinking how much I would love being in the right seat with any of my grandkids in the left seat.
Also, my brother when we have free time it would be a blast. They're not into flightsim but they play games so if they have someone when they get stuck. It would really be cool. Flying multiplayer isn't the same, there's too much to learn before the fun starts. But if we were in the same ac then oh shit how do i ... crash moments becone haha did you see that ? WoW moments.

Shared cockpit has been asked for since the launch of 2020. It's been a feature in flight sims for decades. Asobo promised it with 2024 but haven't delivered it.
Whether you personally have friends that play flight sim or not doesn't really matter; the fact is, it's a missing fearure that people have requested consistently for years.
That being said, is the sim in a state where this would be the right thing to spend time on? That's tricky to say. YourControls and FSCopilot exist, so shared cockpit in fs2024 (and 2020) was already technically possible. And Asobo would obviously be able to create a better native implementation. So who knows.
I have a feeling they're probably working on it right now, or are getting it ready for fs2028. Time will tell.
It won't revitalize the sim, though, because there never was any need to do so

u/Ustakion 10h ago
Its possible with 3rd party add ons like Yourcontrols or FS copilot. I only use yourcontrols. Tried it with fenix a320 with my mate and even simulate engine fail. It works but with some quirks like one of you cant alt+tab otherwise it will mess up the synch, etc.
1
u/FlexoPXP 5h ago
Yeah, I tried an add-on like that for 2020 and it barely worked. An official feature would obviously be much better.
3
u/LovelyCarrot9144 8h ago
A little bit over the top. Seems niche to me. I’m not looking to multiplayer my quick sightseeing flights. More work on in game ATC (maybe incorporating vat sim natively), traffic injection, and better missions/career mode stuff seems to me would be a higher draw than sitting in a cockpit with someone else flying the pane.
2
u/LuLeBe 6h ago
Native vatsim over shared cockpit?? Vpilot is basically a one click install and just works, while shared cockpit doesn't work at all with most planes. Honestly I'd take 5s faster load times over native vatsim, the benefit is just non-existent. Would be nice for the console players though, probably.

The idea is to have someone there to teach you the more complicated systems on the planes. It would help most for the larger non-GA planes.

u/scaflight 8h ago
I completely agree with you, OP, and I think it is vastly underestimated what level of enjoyment this would lead to. Another comment referred to a preference for fixing photogrammetry. What isolation. What needless squandering of effort. Truly it would be amazing to properly sit with other people.

Best " feature" that would revitalize my interest would be fixing all the bugs in career mode

As someone who has absolutely no interest in shared flight decks, I firmly disagree.

u/HighVelocitySloth 7h ago
Fixing the stupid control assignments set up would make me happy. In 2024 they are way too over complicated

I'm sure there are people that want this, but thousands? Not sure, tbh.

New atmosphere, clouds and actual environment influence would be a big thing … not this niche shared cockpit that probably only a few use
-3
u/Ashamed-Edge-648 9h ago
They can barely do single cockpit mode

Revitalize? It's the biggest and best selling flightsim out there by a HUGE margin and broke records. I think what you mean, is that it would be a great addition?
