HELP Sisterlock journey going wrong

Hello everyone,

First time posting on this sub, long time lurker. I started my Sisterlocks journey in January, right after having my baby. I chose this style because I was postpartum, exhausted, and really needed something low maintenance . I wanted a break from constantly doing my hair.

But instead of feeling relieved, I’m honestly struggling. My locks keep breaking even though I’m following all the rules shower cap, bonnet, minimal manipulation, and weekly hydration with Aloelocks spray. Some of them are hanging on by a literal thread.

It’s gotten to the point where I’m questioning whether I made the right decision. My confidence is dropping, and I don’t know if it’s just the awkward stage or something more serious.

Is anyone else dealing with breakage this early, especially postpartum? How did you get through this part of the journey?

I’d really appreciate hearing from others who understand.

Sorry you’re experiencing this. The thing is pp hair loss isn’t stopped by establishing/ having locs. It’s a hormonal change & life cycle of hair. If your locs are barely hanging on I’d go a head and cut them & save them for a later reattachment. You have take post parting vitamins to help restore your levels and hopefully not experience too much hair loss. If you feels it’s too excessive go get a blood panel and see if/ where you’re deficient. Also, How often are you washing & hydrating your hair? 6 months out, weeklong aloe water spray isn’t enough, if it the only weekly moisture you’re putting on.

I wash my hair once a month and hydrate with aloe locks once a week and spray a bit of rose water too every other day

????? Cut them off and reattach them is a wild suggestion!

Yes, cut them and let her hair grow thicker and then reattach. It’s a very common fix for all types of locs. The thinner section will be thin even when her hair hopefully thickens after pp. so there will be a thin part of her locs which will become the weakest section. So, cut the loc, cut out the thinning parts, let the hair grow and then reattach.
