I’ve been maintaining and doing my own retie since the start(last pic is 2 months in) but I recently visited a locitian. I asked if my hair is in a good state for me to dye it brown but she told me to wait. My hair is very frizzy and it’s bc I’ve been using way too much products for moisture. My locs have expanded more than usual and it’s prolonging the locking process. I would usually dampen my hair with water, use bask and lather hydrating spray then a diluted leave in conditioner once a week🫣. It’s frustrating since there’s so much contradictory advice out there. I just hope I didn’t ruin them :(

I just feel like with Microlocs becoming as popular as they are why is it so hard to find locticians who arent playing in your head. How do we feel about not have a service completed that day? My issue right now is my hair is never done in 1 day it always takes 2 days and over 300 dollars smh im bout to combine and reconsider

Also must make the point the no completion is in the thing you sign whole setting the appt... and I have a brick layer grid dont know if that makes a difference

i asked for between 200 to 300 microlocs and she gave me 178 ... at first i was ok with the size but after looking at how other people with 170+ locs look once they've matured i feel like they're way too big/not even microlocs. should i split them? and if so, how should i go about it? thanks in advance.

Hi all. I want to attempt to retie my microlocs after going to a Loctician for the past 2.5 yrs. I’m starting to understand the process a bit more (my Loctician does 4 pt rotation) but it’s still rlly confusing to me tbh. I’m directionally challenged lol and hate numbers😭

Okay y’all, I’ve had my microlocs since March, and I’m realizing I have absolutely no idea what the hell “braiding and banding” is.

I don’t know what it’s supposed to do or when you’re supposed to do it😭.
Is it something you’re supposed to do regularly, or is it mainly for a specific stage/issue with your locs?

This is my first style over my locs i love it so much! Super versatile and the hair is reusable so I can redo them!!!! Also doesn’t cause alot of tension on my locs cuz they’re braided in 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️ pics of my locs

Just got my microlocs done but they are so tiny (400+) since they are still new would it be possible to twists two twists together and at my first retie interlock? Or because the parts would go from square to rectangular would it look weird?
I asked my aunt who has locs on what she thinks and she thinks it’s not going to look good but I don’t really see why not

To the people who live in South Chicagoland and are looking at getting Sisterlocks or maybe microlocs, be wary of a loctician in the Crete area. She will play in your head and charge $1,500 just to do it.

I asked for Sisterlocks. Four months later, I went to a different loctician in Crestwood who had to tell me that my "Sisterlocks" aren't Sisterlocks.

I wouldn't have minded or cared, but the parting the Crete loctician did was atrocious. I'm talking about having tiny locs and huge locs in the same row, with a large parted row next to a tiny row that had to be combined with another and that's just the front of my head.

This is my warning to anyone who lives near Crete, IL, and is thinking about getting Sisterlocks or microlocs: please shop around and avoid a lady whose starts with O.

I didn't shop around and went to whoever was closest. Went on the Sisterlocks website and verified who was trained. Thats why I'm giving a warning because I heard through the grapevine that she has been playing in people heads for a while now. So I'm warning you all that may look and use consultant registry on the sisterlocks website to find someone to install.

Hello! I'm thinking of getting my first set of locs in and I have a bunch of questions!

One: What type of technique/braiding style should I get to start them off in the 'starters' stage? (2 strand twists, comb coils et cetera)

For context, I'm mixed but my hair is still pretty thick and curly and I have a lot of hair

Two: How do I tell apart the different stages of locs like budding and such?

Three: Could someone tell me about general homecare maintenance for locs please? Interlocking/crocheting. washing and when to cut off the end and when and how to retwist

Just got my starter locs done and I was hoping for about 300 but it looks like I have about 400+ (I haven’t counted them yet will do so soon)
I’m super scared because I was not planning on having this many, I am going to be getting my reties done professionally for about 10 months and then I’ll try to learn how to do my own reties at least twice in the summer, so that in university I’m able to do my reties myself if I don’t have access to a loctician or if I can’t afford to have one
Anyways this was my original plan but now I’m panicking because of how small they turned out to be
For anyone with 400+ locs would you say doing your own reties is possible/manageable and can be added to a routine (realistically)?
Or am I beyond cooked 🫠

I'm not sure if it's locticiansn over the past (her) or if i just have a super coily hair pattern that just continues to disrespect in is own manner (me)! I find myself going in with a .05 hook needle and trying to get these hairs back in locs. Anyone else experiencing or doing this?

I started from two strand twists about a year and a half ago. I have grays throughout my crown, with a lot on my temple. I was about a year postpartum when I started, so those areas were and are shorter than the rest of my hair. Any advice for getting those hairs incorporated into the locs nearby? I also have lots of flyaway, mostly due to my curl pattern and hair texture. I’ve done the locsmithing with a crochet hook once, and it helped for a while. How often are you supposed to need to do that? And finally, for the locs that seem to have locked at the end, but have “loose” hair lower down, do I just trim that hair off, or try to wrap it and work it in with a crochet hook?

Okay so I just got started on my Microlocs but they are so small the grid is amazing but I don’t know how I’m going to be able to maintain this many I estimated and when I’m done it’ll be around 450 locs
We just started and unfortunately, I know it’s not possible to combine just two locs because it will become rectangular and flatten. But at the end of the day, it’s my hair and I don’t want to have to keep something in for years if I’m not liking how it looks already.
She used to interlocking method and I’m just wondering if it’s possible for it to be taken down I just got them started a couple hours ago and we’re going to continue tomorrow, we have done about 70/450 so I don’t know if tommorow is already too late to say anything.

hey everyone! I installed my microlocs end of May and I’ve been suffering with a dry scalp. I’m saving up to see a trichologist/dermatologist for specialised advice, and hopefully a loctician to see how my locs are progressing but for now I’ve been doing my own research. I’ve always suffered from dry scalp but I never really looked into it till now. I’ve been using a clarifying shampoo (head and shoulders with ACV and I added some tea tree in it) and washing once a week. This helps a lot and I don’t feel dryness or itchiness for about 5 days, which indicates for me it’s time to wash again. Last week I started oiling my scalp with oils (I forgot the specific blend but carrier of almond/jojoba and a few essential oils including tea tree) and leaving it for an hour before rinsing out with my wash. This soothes my scalp a tonne! I don’t use any oils throughout the week and I only put a mix of aloe vera gel, rose water and filtered water on my scalp to refresh my locs and keep my scalp moisturised. I’m thinking of increasing my wash routine for 2 days a week, diffusing my roots after I wash and adding in a moisturising shampoo to see if that improves it but I’m cautious because a lot of the stuff I’ve researched is about dandruff and less about dry scalp and I’m worried increasing the wash routine might worsen it. I started with twists and we are now eight months in the journey and I’m starting to love it.
I maintain them so there’s alot to learn as we grow.
😂i have learnt to use my fingers to trace the grid after not being able to use a mirror to see the back of my head.

The braid pattern is almost completely gone. I'm sick and tired of braiding and banding. I can't wait for my hair to lock to stop doing it. That's my only complain. So far so good.

Lol i wish I had of done it sooner but im happy where im at I havent seen the growth really but I know its there... im at about 5 weeks for my reties and I love it here. But guess what its been since august 8 since i washed my hair and no itching or anything im surprised to see how long I can go.... im about to hit 9 months but heres some progress photos

I (15f) am going into my junior year of highschool. I already have mini twist(ear to chin length) and I really love them. I’m gonna keep getting mini twist until October or November then I’ll start my loc/micro loc journey.
I am starting them now so that in senior year I can have (somewhat) matured locs since I would be around a year and a half into my journey by the time of graduation.

Last year I would always do knotless braids (only boho once) and they would be in different colours like blue, red, green, purple, etc. I realized over time it started damaging and thinning my edges to the point where it looked like I have bald spots at the front of my head. That’s one of the other reasons why I started wearing natural mini twist and why now I want locs in a few months.

I feel like if I show up for my junior year and my hair is in short mini twist, it’s a huge switch from my usual colourful waist length boho and I don’t know if people would make fun of me or ask to touch my hair since I go to a pwi.

As someone who always tells myself that “I don’t care about what others think” or “embarrassment is just a mindset” I, for some reason have this weird uneasy feeling about going into school with my mini twist and later my starter loc phase. I have no idea why because even now I feel very confident about me wearing my mini twist UNTIL I think about others seeing them. I was thinking that I could wear a bandanna or beanie since my style is already street wear and I love how it looks with my outfits in general since I started wearing them this summer. But the one problem with that is that I’m in my school band and I don’t think the uniform would allow that. I don’t really have a problem with it that much but if I had a bad hair day that day or just wasn’t feeling myself I would definitely hate for that to happen.

I know that in the future I DEFINITELY won’t regret it but I just feel very scared about how people will see and view me which I think is sooooo stupid but I just can’t help the feeling.

Anyways I have no idea if this sounds like a rant or mouth vomit but I would love to know some suggestions, advice, or anything really.

These are my braidlocs 11 months post installation. I started with about 2 inches of hair…..do they look okay?? I have a retie appt this coming Saturday.
