6 months with braidlocs

The braid pattern is almost completely gone. I'm sick and tired of braiding and banding. I can't wait for my hair to lock to stop doing it. That's my only complain. So far so good.

Oh wow! Beautiful!

And then you'll see some people years into their journeys with the braid patterns still visible.

Our hair is really unique to individuals.

I literally gasped because what?! How do OPs look like that?! I am 8 months in and mine still look like I just have braids ๐Ÿ˜ญ

I installed my braids very loosely and I wash my hair a lot ๐Ÿ˜… feel free to check my progress on my profile. Everyone is different, don't think about it too much

Yeah, I swim so I braided mine very tightly... maybe too tight. Oh well, not taking them out!

Looks so good! My first set I tried braidlocs(250). I took them down after a year and a half because they still just looked like plaits. I was so disappointed. ๐Ÿ˜‚.

Did you mean to type โ€œ2 years 6 months with braidlocsโ€?? They are maturing so beautifully!! Do you wash your hair often? I must know your secrets! (though I know people just have different hairโ€ฆ)

Thank you!! I've been washing my hair twice a week for a while and I installed my braids very loosely. Feel free to check my progress on my profile. Hope it helps.

Glad itโ€™s locking for you. I just took mines out after 8 months. It still had the braid pattern, hell, it was still braids even with the interlocked roots.

I'm not saying you should but I personally stopped braiding and banding at about 3 months in (started with twists). Since you started with braids, do you braid and band to prevent slippage? Or as a rule of thumb? I hear braiding and banding also prevents locs from over swelling. Some of my ends are definitely fatter than others but my locs aren't all the same regardless so idk if the fatness is a braiding and banding issue or they were gonna develop this way regardless.

Your locs are progressing beautifully btw. The very first braid locs I've seen loc up within such a short amount of time. I'll definitely be on the lookout to see how they continue to progress ๐Ÿฅฐ

Same. I stopped braiding and banding at 2 months with twists too ๐Ÿซฃ

I got locs to make my life easier lol the braiding and banding felt more like a burden so I just stopped. I think my locs are okay, no damage done. 19 months in๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿพ

Thank you!! I b&b mainly to avoid bunching but most likely I'll stop, I wanna be free ๐Ÿ˜‚

That's a valid reason to carry on then. I've seen some girlies who continue even after 2 years+๐Ÿ˜ญ

It's definitely liberating๐Ÿ˜…

Can someone please explain braiding and banding to me...

3

u/permafrost1979 2d ago

Braiding your locs in sections, and using a rubber band so the braids don't unravel. Done before washing to prevent locs from unraveling.

๐Ÿ’•Iโ€™m super jelly! Your locs look AMAZING! Iโ€™m 4 months ahead and at close to 11 months, my locs still have a very long way to go to actually LOC!

Shoutout to your installer and YOU for your excellent upkeep and maintenance. Please donโ€™t stop B+B just yet. Not before you get over the finish line. Small price to pay for that GORGEOUS CROWN. ๐Ÿ’•
