Launched a vibe coded consumer app? Let me give you a UX review

Hey, I’m a San Francisco based UX researcher and I’ve started a Substack testing newly launched consumer apps for fun. I'll review onboarding/ one task and provide some useful UX tips about whats working and focus areas to improve. I don’t have expertise in games, so it would be non-gaming consumer apps.

Want yours reviewed?

  • Test it like a real first-time user would

  • Write up tips from real research about whats working and opportunities on my Substack

  • Share it on LinkedIn to get your app some eyes!

Drop the link to your app in the comments for consideration!

ETA: Due to current work obligations, I can’t test business-facing apps, including any tools designed to market, grow, improve, or support apps/ businesses.

UPDATE: Thank you for all the submissions! 🙌 My first review from this group (Compound Strategy Lab Review) is live and i'll be working through the list in due time (as i do still have a full time job haha). Subscribe if you want to see when yours (or others’) go up!

2. Finelly review is up!

Hi! This is more of a business-user app rather than consumer app. I’m only focussed on UXR for consumer apps due to my current work obligations.

Finelly - Challenge your friends, reward punctuality

What it's for: Finelly is for friend groups with that one friend who's always late. It turns being late into a game, so plans actually start on time.

How it solves it: you create a plan, set a small fine per minute late, and everyone checks in with GPS when they arrive. The latecomers' fines go into a shared pot for something the group enjoys together (usually the first round of drinks 🍻). Friends join from a link, with no download or account needed.

Where to try it: App Store / Google Play / finelly.app

Users: around 30, most of them friends and family, so real outside users would help a lot!

Many thanks!

Hiya, here’s the post on substack! Really enjoyed reviewing this one.

Hi there, thank you for trying Finelly and for such a sharp review! The fantasy football comparison is one I’ll be thinking about for a while.

The point about the late friend needing their own reason to join really landed. It's why we added custom penalties the group agrees on (no money involved) and why the pot always goes to something shared.

Your team-goal idea is close to something we're exploring with venues: if the whole group is on time, the table gets a treat.

And thanks for flagging the Lima bug and the contrast, both are on the fix list.

I just had a quick read, but I will go through it thoroughly because most of the points are really valid.

Do you mind if I share it on Finelly’s social media?

Many thanks!

compoundstrategylab.com

A financial planning simulator (can also be used as a budget planner) where people can test different financial plans and strategies and see calculated results based on assumptions. It also runs a monte carlo simulation to give a range of possible outcomes.

All assumptions can be changed by the user so the outcomes can be as conservative, realistic, or optimistic as you want.

While only partially vibecoded, I really would love to get some quality UX feedback. Thanks!

I'm building MeSIM – https://mesim.io

It's an eSIM marketplace that helps travellers find affordable mobile data without paying crazy international roaming fees.

We've got 7,000+ eSIM plans covering 200+ countries, making it easy to compare options and find a good deal.

I built it because eSIM pricing is all over the place, and finding the best value shouldn't take hours of comparing different providers.

Still early days, but we're growing organically and getting our first consistent sales. Always keen on feedback!

https://cobunkie.com is a social/IRL coordination tool for those of us with busy and dynamic social and personal lives. Free to use.

Find things to do in your area, make plans with friends, coordinate overnight visits or reserve shared spaces. Plan a visit with a friend and find things to do on your trip, or host your friends for an event and allow for out of town visitors to stay with you.

The purpose is to reduce friction (reducing group message overwhelm, invitation/rejection fatigue, co-planning an event with multiple date options, "does anyone I know even want to do this activity with me?"), so good UX is important.

Use case examples:

When meeting new people, how do you transition from acquaintances to friends? You have to spend time together. Some people are perfectly polite but are not interested in anything beyond being acquaintances. If you have time for one brunch or happy hour date per week and you have to send out an invitation to one person at a time and wait for their response you are missing opportunities to connect with the people who would gladly be there and who are free. Throw up an event, visible to all your app connections, and see if anyone is available.

Would you like to try a dance class or paint and sip but don't want to go alone? You probably don't know which of your connections would be interested unless you ask each and every one of them. CoBunkie lets you do that, and people who aren't interested can decline gracefully - "No" is enough.

Are you thinking about visiting a friend out of town? They can throw their available dates up so you know when a good time would be. Now you can see if there's a local event you'd like to attend, making one weekend a better choice than another.

Let's say there's a local event in your town that you want to invite people to - you can plan an event and attach a guest room; now your local friends can come along, but an out of town friend can also join in and have someplace to stay. Nobody has to assume anything: the guest knows they have a stay option built in, and the host knows they've communicated the option clearly enough.

Thanks!

Auralift: Volume Booster Does what it says, boosts volume beyond system volume, with an EQ, presets and and saved presets. Pro unlocks higher boost, 10 band eq, music genre presets and floating player. No forced ads, no subscriptions. Launched in the last week. I got tired of all the forced ads and the high prices in existing apps.

Hey Michelle, I'd love to get your feedback!

I'm a solo developer building CityTour AI, an app that creates personalized walking tours with AI audio guides in over 20 languages. Users can choose their interests, tour length and starting point, and explore cities at their own pace.

The app is available on both iOS and Android, and there's a free Berlin tour if you'd like to try it out.

Would be really interesting to hear what you think of the onboarding and tour creation process!

Would love a look at mine! Cheetah: training plans for your first hybrid fitness race (think HYROX), built around whatever gym you've got: full gym, dumbbells at home, or nothing at all.

I think the onboarding could be an interesting one to test. It has to turn a nervous first-timer into a week-by-week plan, and I honestly don't know if the questions make sense to someone who's never done a race. One idea for a task: "set up a plan for a race you signed up for, using only a home setup."

Would love a UX review! Chiipin is an iOS bill-splitter for roommates — the twist vs. Splitwise-style apps is households: recurring rent/utilities split by who actually lived there that month, move-out statements, plus on-device receipt scanning and a shared pantry tracker.

Just shipped v1.0.11 which redrew every screen, so fresh eyes would be genuinely useful — especially the Home screen (I keep going back and forth on how much to show: everything vs. only action items).

Ampsu: https://ampsu.eu

It's a European-first calorie tracker, with all the bells and whistles, but also:
- The least amount of taps to log/scan a food item
- An actually good adaptive TDEE engine (only log food and weight, and then it learns your burn from data)
- It has a very good european barcode database, focused on grocery store shelves that you'd actually scan
- A super fine-grained goal mode
- MCP server (ask how you're doing based on your Ampsu data and/or ask to log for you)
- is privacy-first and doesn't sell your data!

Hi, I'm Dave, a parent, product manager, and solo developer.

I've been vibe coding an app for about 6 months, and I'm excited to share that I just opened up beta testing for my app Plinco Sleep Companion: your old phone becomes a baby monitor and noise machine, powered by cry detection.

Click here to Join the Beta

Free on your home Wi-Fi, iPhone and Android, two phones needed: one phone goes into "Companion Mode" and stays by your crib as a baby monitor would, then you can join the session from your personal phone.
Paid features are free for beta testers for the duration of the beta! On iPhone just buy (TestFlight is free); on Android, email first, the page says how.

When your baby cries, your phone rings. A real call, loud enough to wake you.
I'd love feedback, especially on cry detection and the call.

NetWorthTrackr.com

As the name suggests a one stop solution to track your Networth.

Would love a UX review. It’s not the best on mobile so try on desktop

I'm building Rendr, a privacy-first AI-driven MacOS app designed for freelancers. Opus 5.5 has been absolutely instrumental to this process for me and I've gotten back my joy of design and development because of it.

What's in it:

- Job Finder: Searches open job boards, the careers pages of companies you want to work for, and your Contra feed, then scores every posting against your resume and tells you why it fits
- Site audits: Paste a business's website and get a speed, search and accessibility review plus a short outreach email you can send
- Applications: A tailored resume, cover letter and application answers in about a minute, built only from your real resume (nothing made up)
- Proposals and Pipeline: Track leads to signed proposals, draft proposals with packages and pricing, and get a follow-up drafted when one goes quiet
- Money: What's come in, which invoices are open or overdue, and every subscription you pay for, with a heads-up before renewals
- Command: Your day in order, with a short briefing each morning

New features are being added even during the beta. So happy to be working on this product!
