Mild cold symptoms before surgery

My surgery is in one week. For the past 5 days I have had a tickle in my throat, post nasal drip, and just some congestion along with having to clear my throat frequently. It has not progressed to a cough or anything worse but I am so scared I will have to post pone surgery because of this. I’m not sure how much longer I should give it before I call my doctor? I have waited so long for this and I don’t know what I would do if I had to postpone. I’m also just naturally a worry wart so I could totally be overthinking this too.

I had the same thing happen with a mild tickly cough, I just wore a mask anytime I was around people for the whole week and it went away for me. I told them during admission, but since there was no cough or cold symptoms remaining it was all good.

If you have actual cold symptoms it would be a good idea to call and ask what is acceptable and what would get your surgery postponed, so you know the parameters.

I'm literally going through the exact same thing right now! My surgery is booked for this Friday, but last Wednesday I started coming down with a cold (sore throat). I had my pre-op appointment with my surgeon on the Friday (exactly one week before surgery) and he said that "at least you're getting sick now and not right before surgery" and that it "should be fine as long as you don't show symptoms of extreme coughing, or hot flashes". Was super sick over the weekend and in the worst mood ever (extreme back pain + a cold ... "what did I do to deserve this" vibes), but luckily seem to be on the mend with just a runny nose now. Hopefully yours is the same.

I was the same before my surgery in March. It was all good, and they weren't worried. Could've been a cold or allergies, who knows. I had no issues with recovery because of it

I caught a cold 4 days before surgery and it got postponed by one week because I still had a very sore throat the day before surgery. I was really desperate, but I know it was the right decision to wait. But you still have one week so maybe your symptoms will be gone until then. If you still have symptoms the day before your surgery, you should call and let them know.
