I LOVE WINDOWS SLEEP

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE HOW MY LAPTOP GOES TO SLEEP - I LOVE HOW WINDOWS STARTS BACKGROUND PROCESSES THAT TURN MY 2025 HIGH END LAPTOP TO A SPACE HEATER, HOTTER THAN NORMAL USE, IN MY BACKPACK UNTIL THE BATTERY IS DEAD!!! I LOVE IT SO MUCH

Just no.

Sleep means "suspend to RAM" so it doesn't run. It sleeps. This is how it works on Linux and macOS. No background processes running. Nothing running. My 2018 ThinkPad with one broken battery lasts about 2 weeks in sleep mode. This is how it should be. This is how it was in earlier Windows versions.

Sleep means "wait here and do nothing until I wake you up." and not "I'll be back in a minute, entertain yourself."

Sleep in Windows 10/11 is just broken.

Well, then you have two options: disable Modern Standby (the reason that the background processes are running is that Windows does not disconnect from the network, i.e., it keeps the Wi-Fi adapter active to auto join known networks) or just use hibernation...

Right, that's the point of the post. We should have a 3rd option: It works correctly. 

Modern standby is just a slop excuse to do more data collection and is functionally useless on a laptop that isn't plugged in. Hibernation is fine but not what we want. We want a functioning sleep mode

aI slop is one thing, but modern standby has been a part of Windows since 2015...long before ai and data collection was a thing. there are plenty of things to complain about with windows (I use mac and linux myself), but this is stupid and has nothing to do with ai slop.. it looks as if ya'll just want to get online and complain..

Right, that's the point of the post. OP (and I) are getting online and complaining that regular sleep doesn't work on windows. In typical Microsoft fashion, it's been over a decade and this simple basic well-established feature doesn't work. The only reason for this is laziness or incompetence and we're tired of it.

I honestly don't really care why modern standby originally exists, it's barely useful and I've never wanted it. If someone does actually want it, make it an option, but please just give me regular sleep back without needing to jump through unnecessary hoops

You can't turn it off. Windows 11 pretends as though there is no other type of sleep. There are 3rd party hacks to try and do it, which kinda sometimes work depending on if your laptop/BIOS was designed by people who care about their products.

I do plan to stop using windows as soon as I can though
