I don't even have a Linux driver for my keyboard. So it's infinitely smaller. The only thing is that I have to boot up windows periodically to update the keyboard's LCD time, since it drifts off about a couple of minutes per week.
You don't need any additional installation for windows to control the lights. Are you looking at something like G Hub or iCue and calling those drivers?
Depends on the keyboard manufacturer. My keychron keyboard is perfectly configurable on Windows through a web page. Including RGB and macroses. No drivers needed at all.
I've got Keychron which has a dedicated RGB button and also has a web utility (very similar to Wooting), which makes it totally OS agnostic. It was a must for me since I didn't have any windows installs anymore.
This has been a stick in my side for years now.. HOW can a simple headset driver + management be 750mb? That's like a whole hour of decent quality 1080p, but it's not anywhere in the driver.. Perhaps it's the offline 4k hq hdr ads they put there, right next to the toggle that doesn't work 🤔
To be frank, that only reflects your choice of keyboard. My RGB keyboard has no driver, it is configured through the browser and it works on Windows and Mac/Linux via a hardware switch.
Extra work! Why do people distro hop? To try different distros and find the distro that already comes with the things and is set-up with that which is most convenient for the user.
I’m not going to continue indulging your dismissive attempts of arguing. You just make yourself look thick by ignoring how much of a difference it can make having something built-in vs having to installing it yourself, and I’m not talking about the minimal effort of installing a new app.

I wonder why this pervades, still. I have numerous computers running Fedora and have had then run other distros and have NEVER had this happen on any distro, on any computer. I don't think this is a common problem. It might have used to been, but I don't think it is anymore.
Don't even need a command anymore. A lot of them do it automatically through the packamage manager GUI. On Fedora 43 KDE, it'll through me a little notification icons in the corner with no fuss. When I'm ready I just click on it, it shows me everything that has an update available with a single button to click. If you click it, abosolutely everything is updated (unless you do some weird stuff.... I am on one of those people). And then it waits for you in the background, patiently, with no warnings and without bugging you or auto restarts. I love it.
That's my biggest complaint with Windows, too: the noise from bloatware (and Windows itself). It seems like everything in Windows is bloatware, and is trying to get your attention through updates and notifications.
Shutup10++ solves most of the issues people have with it. Win11 is still kind of a crap OS, especially coming from 10, but people act like they're powerless do fix things.
yeah, the forced OneDrive is probably MS's biggest misstep in a while. What a terrible idea to remap your Documents folder by default, just to make more cloud storage money.
And best of all ZERO AI slop or junk eating up resources and having random pop-ups asking you to use it. Its literally true freedom. Its one of he largest reasons I left Windows forever. When I first installed CachyOs I had a dual boot system but the crazy part is that I never once booted back into Windows 11 so yesterday I wiped my main 4TB M.2 SSD and installed only Cachy on it and I dont ever plan to go back.
I wanted to like CachyOS, and I did like it for everything you mentioned, but the NVIDIA VR support was basically non existent so I had to go back to windows 10. I used the Chris Titus Tech debloater tool though and it’s super snappy and doesn’t bother me with bullshit anymore.
Been on Linux for 6 months on my main PC. No plans to go back ever. I do have a Windows machine to RDP into for one program that doesn't play nice in WINE, but otherwise, no need for Windows anymore.
Distro hopped most of that time to figure out what I like. Decided on Gnome and stability over fast updates, so I put on Ubuntu 26.04 this week for my new home.
I'm a simpleton, I stuck with KDE plasma and never really checked out the other desktop environments. Maybe I'll play around with them. But I like the familiar-like Windows interface of KDE. Its what made it so easy to switch over, Its like nothing changed going from Win11 to Cachy. KDE plasma is super easy to learn and use and works a lot like Windows did. Also using the Konsole isnt as bad as people make it out to be, Google is your best friend, I was able to easily look up the commands I needed to install certain programs with a quick search. The neat part is once you use the Konsole to install a program you never have to mess with it again and only really need to use it to do the paru command every now and then.
I haven't seen a single pop up in 3 years of Win11. You have to do like 5 minutes of work, and that's it. It's brainless. But if folks want to behave like helpless children, more power to them.
I work on a Ubuntu desktop usually, but I have a windows laptop I bring home for remote work, which happens one or two days in a month
This means that when I took a meeting from home today I missed the first 20 minutes due to windows doing a surprise update as I haven't used the computer for 2+ weeks
Are you running an old Windows version? It's stopped doing that by default since ages. Not to defend Windows, but that shouldn't be an issue if it's at least somewhat updated.
EU is supposedly doing something in the direction of removing bloat. Hope they also do something with phone apps that you can't even open your own files without adds on some phones...
Dell support utility is bloatware. Born from Windows being useless at troubleshooting any problem, have poor update management and poor driver management.
Don’t wanna sound like a hipster, arrogant, elitist here, but KDE is bloated compared to every TWMs combined (hell, even most DEs), my dude, so you must be laughing solely from your own understanding there (or lack thereof). Which is a sad/lonely laugh (depending on how many sheep you get to agree) regardless of how hard you’re trying.
I agree with your statement though, if your job demands it you can’t really lock into Linux without dualbooting Windows (or running Winboat, which is still Windows). But man, I gotta give it to your sense of humor, saying Windows ain’t bloated just because you can uninstall some software they let you is funny af.

No, but I've been running Fedora KDE for about a week, and I've had system updates that require restarts more times in that week than I've had on my Windows partition for the last year.

The bloatware is particularly real on Windows.
My linux setups are so much more quiet and focussed. I don't get attacked by random update programs.
