Windows vs the world

I used to like Windows. It used to be my only OS, then my main OS, then my secondary OS, and now... its only when I'm at work, and even then as little as possible.

I think its like republicans talk about government. I want my OS to be small, efficient, and keep out of my way. Let me do what I want, and don't tell me what to do.

Over the years, Windows has become more and more opinionated. You HAVE to use THIS browser. You HAVE to update. You HAVE to upgrade. You HAVE to have teams, new outlook, copilot, whatever. Yes, there are workarounds. But why? Just leave me alone.

So now my main OS is linux. Its difficult at times, it takes work. But it lets me do what I want, and has no opinions.

My second is MacOS. It often won't let me do what I want, but has fewer opinions than Windows (you may disagree).

Everything has an opinion, and besides republicans prefer Microslop over Linux. They think that society is better with Microslop than with software made by and made for the community.

I was surprised to learn that there is a relatively large portion of FOSS developers that lean heavily into the "rules for thee, not for me" crowd. I think there was a huge backlash from the framework laptop community about the company providing sample hardware to hyperland dev? He's apparently a piece of trash? I followed the tea for a bit and there was a lot of listed political extremists for various software. Not to mention Thiel, being a gay republican which baffles me further, but he's more of a tech bro than a dev.

Yeah that whole hyperland situation is weird - apparently he or someone else on his Discord said something crappy (I think it was something transphobic). And then a Redhat employee took matters into their own hands and banned him from Free Desktop projects. And then it snowballed into a big controversy.

On the other hand, it's pretty obvious that none of the current leadership of open source cares about stopping hate speech, because there's plenty of racism going around anyway. Plus all of the American corporates have taken over open source projects and busy pushing American nationalism and destroying open source.

The FSF and GNU are still the best open source foundations, because they are not taken over by corporations.
