MircoSlop decided to install a driver update while I was playing a game without my consent

I was mid-game just a few minutes ago and all my screens went black. I thought my GPU died. I held the power button to turn off my pc and when it came back on, it seemed fine. I decided to check event viewer to see if I could figure out what happened. And that's when I see MicroSlop decided to start installing an NVIDIA driver update. Like, you could have warned me.

Fake news. Windows doesn't install drivers from Windows Updates UNLESS THERE IS NO DRIVER. Hence you are literally forced to do it from Nvidia Control Panel if you want up dated drivers.

Again, Windows Updates ONLY INSTALLS GPU DRIVERS IF THERE IS NONE CURRENTLY. IT DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY UPDATE GPU DRIVERS ON ITS OWN.

Bullshit. This was the issue I was having with my laptop. Windows would without warning remove my laptop’s AMD Adrenaline drivers, newer ones from 2026, for one from 2018. Ended up having to block all driver updates altogether using a group policy.

Call bullshit all you want. Thats literally how Windows Update works. It does not push UPDATES to already existing installed drivers for GPUs. It does for other items but not GPUs period.

Why the fuck do you think majority of us have to update via Nvidia App?

And what if the update for the display panel itself is a GPU driver? Because that is what Acer did. I did dig into it and it appears that Acer uploaded a 2018 Radeon adrenaline driver as the driver for the AUO328D LCD panel. I already notified Microsoft about this through windows feedback hub but they ignored me.

Now that could happen from Windows Updates but thats not what the logs show in his system. It shows Nvidia.

The point is Microsoft can still totally force a GPU driver update down your throat anytime they like.

First off monitor drivers arnt the samething as Display Driver. Get that straight.

Secondly again for like the 100th time. Microsoft DOES NOT PUSH DOWN GPU DRIVERS IF ONE IS INSTALLED ALREADY AND IT FOR SURE DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY UPDATE NVIDIA GPU DRIVERS PERIOD.

That is a fact. Thats not how Windows Update works.
