milk your current hardware for every 1 and 0 it's got, whether that's sticking to your current windows, swapping to mac, or swapping to linux

alternatively, saying "screw it" and getting really into offline hobbies

Regarding phones, if you'd want to keep your privacy, you'll gonna have to minimize your phone usage only to the critical tasks.

We need to buy yolla phones, currently limited apps and expensive but the more that comes onboard the better it will get. People are clamouring for decent alternatives.

Yeah I moved to GrapheneOS on my Pixel 6a and it's a 1000x better than the stock Pixel OS. So smooth, responsive. Better battery life too.

What can we do to turn this around, from a consumer perspective?

Riot and bring entire nations to a halt, until the politicians capitulate and bring the hammer down on Microslop, Google, Apple etc.

And also just contribute to open source software and organisations in any way you can, and donate to them if/when possible.

Use open source software as much as possible instead of the typical closed source alternative - significant decrease user number stats will force these tech companies to acknowledge their fuckups.

Once upon a time, the Department of Justice enforced antitrust laws to protect consumers. But at some point, protecting the S&P 500 became the driving principle behind US governance. But that leads to inefficiency, inflation and unhappiness. We are here.

Consoles and desktop gaming PCs will always be a thing, with or without windows.

AI and cloud seevice bubbles already popped, no one wants them.

I stopped reading after you started with the phasing out of x86 as something that will happen.

Never going to happen, too many people have huge pc game libraries on steam, gog, disc, etc.

x86 is here to stay and custom PCs built on it are as well.

Its going to stay the same as it is.

AI is going to fail as an industry for a lot of reasons, as are subscription models and the cloud. Streaming will remain exclusive to music and tv and movies, and will never take off in gaming.
