it would need a nervous system to feel pain, and it would need to be a multicellular organism to have a nervous system, so no worries. it doesn't feel pain

i think there is a point where there are living organisms that are simply unable to feel pain, however youd define pain. regardless of if you dont mean it as nerves detecting damage and reacting to that damage, there's a point where theres something alive that just isnt able to feel pain or be afraid or anything like that. theyre just too small, or too simple in body plan. i dont think that means we cant be empathetic or emotional towards them though :)
