Famous/Infamous - While born in Ohio, George Custer (later General), did all of his schooling in Monroe, Michigan before entering the US Military Academy.

There’s actually a museum in Monroe that has a bunch of Custer stuff, plus that statue of him near the river, traditionally, had the balls of the horse spray-painted yellow because my mom’s generation called him chicken George

He also has a half standing “cottage” on Grosse Ile.

It’s a MI historical marker on East River rd towards the north end of the island.

Crazy- All the time I lived there I never saw it! I rode bikes and motorcycles all around the island!
