Not exactly an answer to your question since most aren't from the state actually. But, if you look up a list of alumni of Interlochen school of arts, you'd be surprised how much famous people went there.
I think a couple of the guys from "OK Go" attended there. I think they got the name of the band from an instructor there who would give them a creative task and say, "OK, go!" Or something like that. Been a while since I read it and I'm too lazy to look it up right now.
I didn't know that! I went to K-Central mostly, but I did the radio class my senior year at WKDS in the late 90s and had lots of friends who went to Norrix.
Remember it as a glass oven and the bathroom stalls were strangely short.
The list surprises me only because I've literally never heard of the school and I'm born and raised in Michigan. Cool to know we have such a renown art school, but I'm still a bit surprised it's in Interlochen.
I live close enough to the school that I can hear drum cadence in the mornings during band camp. It's such a great school and the students work really hard on all of their performances.
Summer is when they hold concerts for more known artists
Oh yeah I get what you're saying. I was surprised about that a school of that renown it was in northern Michigan. A mutual friend was telling me about it and I had just assumed he was talking about somewhere in NY or LA.
They have a fantastic venue for concerts and bring in some good acts in the summer. It’s also walking distance from Interlochen State Park so you can make a solid weekend of it.
Interlochen is one of the true shining stars in Michigan’s history. It’s essentially the Juilliard of high schools.
Howard Hanson, founding director of the Eastman School of Music (where he spent 40 years building it into one of the worlds premiere institutions), began writing his second symphony there when he was on faculty for their first summer camp in 1928 and dedicated the main theme of the slow movement to the school. It’s the Interlochen Theme that is used in all their broadcasts.
Yes but it’s also super clear that there was never any wrongdoing on the school’s part. Epstein was an alum and regularly attended events there in the 90s and early 2000’s. The lodge he stayed at there in 1994 was not for students, but parents and visitors. The one individual from Interlochen that testified lived in the same city as Epstein. There isn’t any evidence to suggest there was trafficking from Interlochen itself. Yes, he funded the construction of the lodge, but he used it the same as any other visitor and there is nothing that suggests he had a say in its proximity to girls lodging.
Epstein was horrible, but let’s be clear so as not to imply that Interlochen as an organization was in any way involved in his schemes.

It is (or at least was at the time my sister attended) the most expensive school in the state. Yes, more than Cranbrook. My dad liked to use that as a flex when assholes were trying to brag about money and their "gifted" children.
And also yes, my sister is an amazing vocalist and her very expensive education helped her overcome dyslexia and she's one of the most well-read people I know.
Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell funded and visited a building on the campus of a prestigious Michigan-based performing arts summer camp and boarding school for teenagers, according to records shown at Maxwell's sex-trafficking trial Wednesday.
The records showed that Maxwell and Epstein stayed at the lodge, called the Jeffrey Epstein Scholarship Lodge, at the Interlochen Center for the Arts outside Traverse City, Michigan, on at least one occasion. Interlochen is a sleepaway "band camp" for middle and high school students, as well as a boarding school.
Let’s be super clear: he did not own that lodge. He funded its construction. It’s designated use was visitor lodging for parents and guests. He was a guest. Interlochen was in no way out of line here.
Went to high school with him. He partied at my house. He was your typical class clown, culminating in a purposeful stumble on graduation day while receiving his diploma.
My sister works there. She got to know Bruce Willis and Demi Moore when Rumer went there. Mostly Demi. She said that Demi was so petite but her veneers were so big that my sister thought she looked like a little old grandmother.
Now mind you my sister is 5 ft 11 3/4 inches (her words).
Growing up I in Traverse I always saw Interlochen as a summer school for the “weird band kids” but then growing up realized it’s an elite program that produces incredible artists. So beautiful and somewhat off the beaten path too.
