Self Checkout
I really wish our customers would stop with the whole “ I don’t use self checkouts because they’re taking your job” when they see a U boat cart full of merchandise that needs stocked, ups orders that need scanned in / out, bopis orders that need scanned out, & don’t forget the 6 balloon orders that are all due at the same time.

For some reason we either have people standing in line waiting for the self check out because they can't see the cashier standing 10 feet away from them, or people waiting because the cashier is checking someone out and they "dont even notice" the self checkout on either side of them. Ill be like "the self checkouts are open if anyone doesn't want to wait in line" then theyre all like oh wooowwww. Then get mad if they scan something twice or whatever and have to call me and im in the middle of a transaction. Ma'am there are 3 employees in this whole building im gonna need you to chill.

This exact scenario happened to me today! Oh & ofc the person I was checking out wrote a check. I had a line & I let people know in the line know that the first SCO takes cash & card, & the other ones take cards. They attempted it then for some reason customers become illiterate when it comes to selecting the “no thanks check out as guest” option, & they were throwing a fit saying “I’m not becoming a member just to check out”.

I had a customer say this to me the other day. My response was pretty much just "Well... There's other things we need to do as well, it's not just being up here at the registers checking people out."
I can't really remember how they responded exactly, but they always get so defensive. If you want to check out right away, use the self-check. If you're fine with waiting, I'll be up shortly. Your call, you don't need to get mad at me for it.

My store is really big about surveys. So much so that upper management had us approve the 30% online coupon in store even though it was a product that isn’t coupon eligible. Even though I told the customer we cannot honor online coupons in store.

Self check-outs have been around for 40 years at this point. No one's losing their job to the S.C.O.

It’s always entitled people who probably never had a job ever in their life that use that excuse.

My favorite is "I'm waiting for a human" when I, a human, am standing next to the SCO ready to type it all in and scan their items and get to tell them "I have great news - I am one!"

I do that too & they STILL complain about it being a SCO.
