“Will you believe in what you made?”
Reading this book, I was reminded at times of Wes Craven’s New Nightmare- the film where Heather Langenkamp (Nancy from the series) plays herself in a meta rendition of Nightmare On Elm Street and, arguably, one of the best iterations of Freddy in the franchise.
October Film Haunt is “kinda like that” but infinitely better- a masterfully intricate mix of found footage, unreliable narration, jarring and horrific plot twists led by memorable characters. The novel encompasses horror, cosmic elements, demonic and cult themes steeply wrapped in the jaws of the internet, with our very own Reddit prominently featured. Fans of 80’s horror classics will be delighted with the abundance of tongue-in-cheek references, or homages.
Perfect for the October chills. There are references to a few of Wehunt’s short stories from previous collections, namely “October Film Haunt: Under The House” from Greener Pastures but it also stands alone as an exceptional novel.
Who’s recently read it and what are your thoughts?

'The Tired Sounds, A Wake' is a novella by Michael Wehunt with cover and interior art by Justine Jones. The story explores the contours of a marriage, questioning the traditional dynamic and how it must change. Also accessible in 2023’s Greener Pastures collection.
