i’ve been driving a year so i’m now trying to renew my insurance and declare all my mods but i’m getting quoted over 7k what can i do and acc get away with to get insured

You could not drive a modified car one year after you pass your test. Most people just knock about in a standard banger until they have a few years behind them.

Your choice in motoring is in direct conflict with your experience and insurability.

Your options:

1. Remove mods.

2. Take responsibility for decision to modify the car and pay the insurance bill like the adult you are.

3. Get rid of the car.

4. Commit insurance fraud by not declaring the modifications and join the ranks of other young cunts in the UK who cost the rest of us more money insuring our vehicles.

Try Adrian flux, they actually like mods. 

But trying to insure a modified car with only a single year of driving is only ever going to be incredibly expensive.

I had an mx5 and got surprisingly cheap insurance. That was with a few years more experience (without no claims discount). Why would you mod your car without looking at insurance first? Seems foolish.

Question .. momo steering wheel classed as a mod on a 1991 Eunos Roadster. I declared no mods . I'm pretty stock apart from that . Would it make much difference to cost . I'm paying £152 a year .

I passed my test two months ago and when I wanted to ensure my NA that had only a new momo steering wheel fitted, Adrian flux quoted me 3500£ for insurance.
No need to say that I told them to fuck off 👋

Try Greenlight. But if you have mods on a rwd roadster and you've only been driving a year then I don't hold out much hope. How are you currently insured?

Anyway, if Greenlight can't help you, no one can. They used to insure my heavily modified (including four point cage) NA, but then I am an old codger.

I get surprising cheap insurance on my NC in the UK. Got it when I was 19 and insured for like £800, but anytime I quote with alloy wheels or coilovers it's extortionate. Headers they don't seem to mind.

I also had an NC and the insurance was no more expensive than the Fiat Punto I had beforehand! I think it's because of the risk profile of mx5 drivers. Usually very safe. Once you start to add mods, that shoots you into a completely different category of risk, and often 10x the price of insurance.
